My Ruger Blackhawk convertible doesn't pierce primers when the 38/357 cylinder is used, but it pierces 30% of 9mm . Firing pin protrusion is about .042",any ideas?
Thanks

All these words, and no pictures?

Protrusion and shape of the pin both matter. Pin clearance through recoil plate matters. Pressure and primer cup thickness, of the cartridge, both matter.

If you're on the edge, headspace might matter, not for pressure, but for primer extrusion and reseating effects.

In short, Pictures!

Headspacing. Trim the 9 brass a few thou shorter and that should solve it.

Unless they're is some blowback happening while hammer all the way forward. Something like this would occur on a Smith and Wesson with fixed hammer..... I forgot the firing pin is inertia operated and not fixed to hold forward, so you're problem is likely my first sentence.
