Hello all!

I am looking into getting a small pistol safe for my HD pistol that I keep next to the bed. I have a little (and very curious) girl that is almost 2 years old, and want to prevent any mishaps until she is old enought to be taught about firearms. I am sortof looking into the Gunvualt Micro safe or something of the like. I have and RSC where all the other firearms are kept, I just want something for my nightstand pistol. I may or may not mount it to my bed frame, or might just keep it up on the shelf. Also may use it for air travel if I ever need it. Any input would be helpful, thanks!

I have the V-Line safe and am very satisfied with it. A few selling points for it: no batteries to fail, no need for a back-up key for kids to find, key pad is very user friendly and can be operated in the dark, can easily fit into a drawer or be bolted down. It is a nice small safe in which I can store my three handguns along with magazines/speedloaders. I got mine from Cabela's but they are available elsewhere.

I like any of these that use the Simplex mechanical lock, like the V-Line already mentioned. The FAS-1 is also a good option, as is the Fort Knox version. There may be a few others out there as well. One of them should have something that fits your needs.

dont get a "gunvault". I had a gunvault 4 button electric two pistol safe, I liked it a lot at first, but after about 6 months I went to grab my gun to go shooting and it wouldn't open. I used the key, took it apart and found that the wire that opened the door broke. Didn't bother sending it back, I don't trust that brand anymore, if that had broken when I needed my handgun immediately for self defense it could have been bad news.

Thanks for mentioning my safe Frank. It means a lot to me coming from someone with you experience.

Ours will work well for securing your handgun next to your bed or nightstand, but because of it's size and weight (21 lbs.) its not very portable. Whatever you purchase should be bolted to something solid and for air travel you just need a simple locking hard case.

You're more than welcome.

I have a little one on the way, and I see at least one of your safes in my future. At that point I can suggest them from an owner's perspective in addition to that of an expert. ;)
