I've only seen pics of this pistol but I really like it's looks plus it's the right size for my needs, frame-mounted safety, all metal, based on CZ75, well-regarded maker,

There don't seem to be too many of them around and I'm wondering if anyone knows if Tanfoglio made any similar models and/or if anyone knows of any others similar to this.

Depends on WHICH TZ-75.
These were made by Tanfoglio of Italy and imported by several importers.
As I can recall they were imported by Excam, FIE, Springfield, and last by European American Armory (EAA).
Fine details varied in the shape of the trigger guard and slide, and in the location of the safety.
Early guns had slide mounted safeties, later frame mounted.
The later production used a larger frame that could be use with calibers from .22 to 10mm and .45.

Today the best of the "clones" is the Turkish Sarsilmaz SAR 2000.
It uses the original size smaller frame and is made of carbon steel or stainless steel.
Quality is absolutely outstanding, far better then the Italian made versions.
Slide and frame are forged and CNC machined steel, barrel is hammer forged and mirror bright inside and out.
There are NO machine marks inside or out.....Zero.
This is possibly the best buy in an all steel 9mm.

Here's a review I did shortly after I got it. Since then I've shot it good bit and reliability is 100%, accuracy excellent.........

I'd just point out, Tanfoglio is NOT a clone of the 75 action.
Very little to no parts interchange, to me that's not a clone.

I see it often, people buy the cheaper "clones" thinking they'll upgrade with CZ custom or CGW parts or just buy CZ OEM parts only to find out parts don't interchange.

The Tanfoglio action has also changed through the years, so some of older parts don't work with the newer ones. Even SARs guns are not straight up clones of the Tanfoglio action.

The original Tans would take the older CZ 15 round mags, the TZ-75, Excam TA-90, Springfield P-9. The funny thing is Sarsilmaz was a distributor of Tanfoglio who copied the design, so it's appropriate to call it a clone of a clone. Yes, there's been some substantial drifting on parts and builds over the years, for certain, even with the Jericho 941 which is also a partial Tanfoglio, final assembly in Israel.
BTW, when this was all happening I was the guy in charge of the CZF Clone Club and was in contact with Fratelli Tanfoglio more than once, nice people.

I used to have a TZ-75, it was an OK gun. I sold it long ago, but have the one in my avatar, along with two more "TA90" "Mossad" guns in the "Wonder Finish". Compact:

I have a SAR 2000, nice gun, along with a real CZ, a 75 Pre-B. The 75 is pretty spectacular, trigger job, slide fit is pretty much perfect, overtravel screw, and it's finished in something like or in fact, NP3. It's now my favorite semiauto:

I had a TZ75 series 88 imported by FIE. Not a bad gun. Bought it as new old stock from a local shop. Only issue I had with it was a habit of stove pipe jams a couple of times every box of ammo. Never really trusted it. Replaced the extractor spring and a lower power recoil spring. That helped but didn't eliminate the problem. Sold it of after about a year of tinkering with it. My SAR K 12, on the other hand has ran perfectly for about 1500 rounds in the year or so I've owned it. IMG_20230507_114318_HDR.jpg IMG_20230507_114434_HDR.jpg

There are tons of Tanfoglio pistols out there, along with Jericho 941's and Baby Eagles with a lot of Tanfoglio parts.

Pre Covid the Israel trade ins could be had at a pretty reasonable price. Not so much any more. But I keep my eye open looking for them.

Every so often a few turn up and are snatched up quick. I was lucky to get my Jericho 941, as nasty looking as it is before they were all gone. Only problem with it was it came with the compact guide rod and recoil spring in it. My saddest looking gun, by far:

I had one of the Israeli imports many years ago.It was a good pistol, heavy to carry, but a nice trigger and reliable. I always wanted one of the Mossad marked guns but didn't get them when they were cheap and now they are harder to find and higher priced.
Canik made a line of very good Cz clones too but has discontinued them.
Sar makes good guns but I have had lousy luck getting any service from the company. I tried to get a spare part 2 years ago. They never delivered and I had to find one elsewhere.
All in all, I'd rather just buy a CZ.

The TZ I owned years ago was a good shooting pistol. It had the Wonder Finish which was great.

Seems like a lot of the problems the older TZ and similar vintage pistols had was solved with a stronger mag spring. A friend had the Springfield P9 and it had issues until he used one of my new mags in it that seemed to have a much more powerful spring in it. He replaced the springs in both of his mags, and it was pretty much 100% from that point on. He sold it off though, but later on replaced it by a Tri-Star T120, which is a great clone of a Jericho.
