This may have been done before but I was just in the local gun store talking and picking up fishing licenses and one of guys I was talking to nice guy but was going on about this that and the other that the government does. It makes the rest of us look bad and may drive away potential gun owners who come in. So please leave out side the gun store.

Hard to do when it is the customers coming in and spouting that stuff. But it definitely has place coming from behind the counter. The salesman's job is to sell guns, ammo, and accessories, not bloviate on politics or sociology.

If you think the federal government is benign and looking out for anything other than maintenance of its own supreme power, you are naïve beyond the point of help.

Sell your guns and ammo, and buy pink fluffy bunnies to pet until they put you in the gas chamber.

Oh yes, God forbid we let a shop owner talk about what he wants to talk about in his own shop.

Don't get me wrong I don't think the government is doing anything but what it wants but on the other hand talking about things there is no proof of, does not help our cause in recruiting other gun owners.

If the government cant trust me with guns, then I cant trust the government.

The first amendment rights do not seem to bother gun owners a whole lot.

"Our cause"? "Recruiting?" All this talk of causes and recruiting has got me weirded out.... I'm considering giving up firearms.... Too many conspiracy theorists :D

TO MLJ fair enough. What I mean (and I hope you people realize this) is that it is bad to scare of potential gun owners and the only way we are to keep the gun culture alive is to bring new people in and introduce them to it and some might be less inclined to do that after hearing something that is not based on facts. I am not saying you shouldn't be able to say those things just asking you not to.

If someone's already in the gun store, they're probably not too put off by some guy ranting at the store's counter. Unless you're talking about a normal store like a Walmart, but hey... it's walmart. What do you expect?

That being said, talking about how "the government wants to take all our guns" is hardly a conspiracy theory anymore... I know some still treat it as such, but with documented statements by some of our most influential leaders in the government stating that exact goal, you'd be a fool to believe it's a conspiracy theory.

EDIT: Besides, newbies are going to encounter the "crazies" at some point or another, I'd rather have them know they exist before they buy a gun and later give it away at a police buyback because "only crazy people have guns".

Back in 1999, remember 1999? Apparently I had no idea that the world was going to end and the UN was going to be ordered into the US to restore peace. I was told by a very intense, earnest, and helpful LGS employee that I shouldn't be buying a lever-action 30-30 because I'd need my rifle to be compatible with 5.56 NATO standard ammo so I could steal ammo from dead UN soldiers.

When I told him that I was just in buying a rifle for fun, not for armageddon, he looked at me like I was the crazy one.

At least they weren't trying to convince you that a 22-250 was a much better rifle for deer and elk than a 270. "The 270 will just shatter on the surface of the hide. They're really just designed for target shooting." :banghead:

He had a stack of 22-250s.

A local guns shop down the road from me is known for the owners outlook on the world. I'm pretty sure he marks up his prices as a charge for the entertainment you get while in there.

Some people I know don't go there specifically because of his eagerness to share his views, but I get a kick out of it and he has good prices on used stuff people bring in for trade.

this might be a ymmv thing.

i ask you, what's crazier?

chemtrails or fast and furious?

would you have labeled it a crackpot conspiracy theory if someone told you in 2010, that the US AG and ATF forced gun dealers to sell almost 800 AK47s and 50BMGs to mexicans with no identification, suspected of being members of drug cartels?

what good is recruiting new gun people if they will be like passive little bunnies scared to say anything. balrog got it right

Post Iran-Contra? Yes, I'd give a Fast and Furious conspiracy theory a listen. In fact, I did.

Pre Iran-Contra? I would have smiled and nodded.

if I told you that you could not buy a full auto tommy gun in your hardware store anymore or buy a gun thru the mail or be arrested in order to buy a pistol pass a background check for a .22 give your kid a ticket for bicycling without a helmet or you could not smoke in an outdoor arena or give you a ticket for not wearing a seat belt etc (I could go on for a week) you would call me a conspiracy nut

There is this store south of the Canadian border.
We'll call the owner Tom.

Tom is more of a survivalist with an FFL than a store owner.

His place is off the beaten path and is more of a bunker/compound than a store.

When we go down there we always call ahead to see if he's there and to give him a heads up that were on our way. I wouldn't want to go there unexpectedly just in case.

We listen to Toms' survivalist ranting and lend a sympathetic ear.
At the end of it there is relatively cheap surplus 7.62x51 so we can go shoot full auto with some of our friends.

I don't know if he still has 7.62x51 because it is stacked so deep or just that he likes us going by listening to his thoughts on what the world will look like in the future.

All I know is that I'm not going to be the one to challenge his reality.
