The thread is about smart guns, not anyone's opinion of social media. Who really cares about a personal opinion on a subject that yet another thread highjack?
I central issue of "smart guns" is that it seems to always involve personalizing the firearm. That is good from a security standpoint, but not practical from a reality standpoint. Police MIGHT benefit from a weapon that can only be used by them. However, they point out that this prevents a brother officer from picking up a working gun from another officer in case of failure under fire. That circumstance is easily the same with a civilian, in the case of another family member reaching the Home Defense gun before the primary does. This technology would also make letting another person try your gun at a range, or you trying theirs, almost impossible.
Such technology, if mandated, could cause MORE, not less, gun ownership. People would buy EACH family member a gun and accessories. Think THAT would fit under the Law of Unintended Consequences?
