Sad. Only 1.3 billion get to participate! Or somewhere around that number.

Well fine... But that doesn't mean I need to be (or for that matter want be) part of the Facebook picture. From my perspective it's a waste of time, and us old, over the hill folks don't have a lot of that left to waste. :neener: :D

the bane of all fingerprint readers.............GLOVES

now there is a good point , are we all going to wear fingerless gloves when the temp drops below 25deg ? ( wait Mr. Carjacker ,I need to take off my gloves to protect myself !)

Red Wind: I'm not angry , you have the right to be wrong , I just wanted to point out that many don't use facebook because we/they feel it is a waste of time and if we needed tin-foil hats we would not be on here , I have a few friends that use LinkedIn (facebook for grown-ups) I may join that some day ...

Yeah, gloves and "smart' guns don't match up well together.

LinkedIn is just a self promotional tool that nobody takes too seriously. You'd be much better off getting a Facebook account and playing with us 1.3 billion juveniles! :p

If I lived in Tombstone and could play with my guns everyday like lucky you, I probably wouldn't be on a computer at all.

And I only use Facebook to log in to make comments on mainly political and sports sites. I have no wall and no followers. It's just a handy tool .

I'm probably as old as you, so there is little time for me to waste either. :uhoh: Invite me to Arizona so I can OC and hunt some really big hogs and other critters.

You can see I'm quite envious of your environment. I used to live in Tucson, and over 50 years ago made a gigantic mistake by leaving. :banghead:

This is true for LinkedIn. It's truly amazing how everyone in the world is a "senior executive Vice President" of some no-name company.

I tried it for a bit and grew tired of it.

Now, when I'm sitting around with nothing to do, I troll THR.

I have work and private email. Other than that, THR is the extent of my digital footprint.

If I'm really bored, I google some type of firearm and see what comes up.

Somehow this seems to be a thread about Facebook. I am on it, but don't do much with it.

But back to the "Finger print reader" gun.

I am against all such lunacy. Look at who the supporters of such idiocy are, the gun banners! No Law Enforcement group has ever come forth supporting their use of such weapons for a darn good reason! They are unreliable!

No gun owner who knows anything about them would support their use.

"Smart guns" are an awful lot like the new cars coming out that drive themselves. No thank you very much. If you want to ride in one - go for it. Just don't tell me I must because it's for my own good. Democracy. The power of stupidity.

In my profession my fingers take a beating. My fingerprints get burned and scarred all the time. One of these smart guns would probably not work for me anyway. I have to take 2 weeks or more off forging to get fingerprints taken.

HELLO OUT THERE! HELLO! ANYONE HOME?

SOME OF US DO NOT HAVE FINGERPRINTS! VERIFIED BY THE OREGON STATE POLICE. I CANNOT EVEN USE A LUGGAGE STORAGE AT THE AIRPORT BECAUSE THEY REQUIRE FINGERPRINTS!

HELLO! ANYONE LISTENING?

The caps are intentional. I need to shout to get some attention. One airline did respond to my complaints, but otherwise everyone continues believing in the myth of fingerprints. Per the Oregon State Police when I was not able to give fingerprints for my CHL, older people and those who have their hands in water much of the time often do not have prints.

On top of that, one has only to have the "smart gun" for about 30 minutes, remove the computer (just an extra "trigger"), either remove a barrier used by the computer or fix in place an enabling link used by the computer to make the gun a dumb gun.

EXTRA! SMART GUNS EASILY DEFEATED BY INTELLIGENT TEENS AND CRIMINALS.

The thread is about smart guns, not anyone's opinion of social media. Who really cares about a personal opinion on a subject that yet another thread highjack?

I central issue of "smart guns" is that it seems to always involve personalizing the firearm. That is good from a security standpoint, but not practical from a reality standpoint. Police MIGHT benefit from a weapon that can only be used by them. However, they point out that this prevents a brother officer from picking up a working gun from another officer in case of failure under fire. That circumstance is easily the same with a civilian, in the case of another family member reaching the Home Defense gun before the primary does. This technology would also make letting another person try your gun at a range, or you trying theirs, almost impossible.

Such technology, if mandated, could cause MORE, not less, gun ownership. People would buy EACH family member a gun and accessories. Think THAT would fit under the Law of Unintended Consequences?

The easiest way to ensure you can rig a poll to get a liberal bias, is to make people sign in to social media to vote.

So, here's my personal issue with this. After years of working on any mechanical you can likely imagine, my finger prints are essentially gone.

The best example I can give is a couple of years back I was doing the paperwork to have access to a local military base for work. They use some contract outfit to handle the paper work (hmm, I wonder what politician got the kick back on that decision).

The company issuing the passes uses a finger print scanner as part of the process. Well, it couldn't read my prints. So, I had to go back on another day when they had someone who could do the old ink and paper bit.

After many, many attempts, the expert finger printer basically gave up. He took one last set, and decided that the smudges were my finger prints. There are no defined ridges and valleys just a blob of ink smeared on the paper.

So, how the heck would I be able to use one of these firearms? Wouldn't that be a violation of my civil rights?

No doubt there are many Conservatives on Facebook, but I suspect you are correct about liberal bias.

Fingerprint reading technology is not very good. If it was sufficient for reliable activation/deactivation of a "smart gun" we would not be seeing all the development of biometric scanning technology that is being used to control access to secure areas. Why would money be spent developing expensive new technology if fingerprint reading was reliable? I am surprised we have not yet heard something about work on instantaneous DNA identification technology. That will probably be proposed for a "Smart Gun" someday.
