Poll! Average age of local Police officers in your area

something i've noticed over the years (makes it sound like i've been on this planet for eternities) is that the local police officers we have here are definitely not young or even all that fresh to the force.

i'd put the average age of our local LEO to be about 30-33, for men and about 27-30 for women.
what about your area?

i think this has a great impact on the overall attitude of law enforcement and contributes to a lower rate of the police having to draw their weapons. incidentally, according to Massad Ayoob, Anchorage Police have a very high accuracy percentage for incidents involving officers shooting at suspects.

A lot of factors determine average age. Many departments are hiring older people with work experience instead of someone right out of school.

In my area the beat cops tend to be around 25-30,The Ftos tend to be a little older 35-40 range.

Late 20's - early 30's around here. The chief looks to be about 40 or so. I saw him do a cartwheel last Friday so he can't be too old/out of shape. I would still be in the hospital if I tried that.

I live in a rural area. The cities in this county have all abandoned their local PD's in favor of contracted services from the county sheriff. With pay being very low, officers with families must seek employment elsewhere. They make more money working for Wal-Mart that they can in law enforcement here. So we have a revolving door situation and force full of peach fuzz.

I must agree with tallpines, here in Greater Cleveland it looks as though most patrol type police officers look to be about 12 or 13. Although I imagine they are in their early twenties.

Boy, do I hate it when they talk down to me during stops, makes me want to get and slap them like threir momma used to (I'm for the police, not the gun-ho suburban glorified security guards who consider it a big day when they bust a 13 year old shop lifter and ticket five people going 25 in a school zone on President Day).

Once you get into Cleveland itself I would guess the average age goes up to 52 (avg. weight must be around 250 lbs too). These guys just won't retire, and won't take lip from anyone.

To me, they all look about 12 years old, but I have to assume they're mostly in their upper 20s.
