A holster just introduces one extra thing to do in a hurry. Springmom

My dogs will give me early warning at home, so I holster. In hotel rooms, I doff the holster for timelieness concerns. That said, we usually have the dogs also so the alarm is still present.

Gun is never under the pillow unless we're camping, then it's in a holster. Dogs usually there too.

Like a few others here, I have a holster mounted to the bedframe.

Same here. I have a holster screwed to the front of the frame by the head board. I keep my maglite underneath the holster where I can find both in the dark. My cellphone is always on the nightstand as I use it as my alarm clock. One day I will have a dog that isn't absolutely worthless and he will be at the foot of the bed (instead of the lazy a$$ one I have now that insists on sleeping under the sheets often on top of my wifes feet).

Same as Striker. One on each night stand and with rail lights and a M-4 hanging in the closet. Have 4 dogs and some mean cats so we have plenty of warning.
Also, something is always close by for the unwanted guest that decides to bust the door open during supper time. We live in rual Vermont so we even carry when mowing the lawn....lots of druggies driving the back roads.

AK pistol with a 20 round mag hanging from the headboard by it's sling. All I need to do to put in action is grab it and rack the bolt.

I've got a 4 year old, so nothing is unsecure. Mine is kept in a V-Line gun vault with push button entry with a surefire and spare mag in my nightstand.

I also keep a Bennelli M1S90 under the bed in another V-Line, same combination.

I have an M9 which I sleep with so I have no rail upon which to mount any sort of light... Thus I sleep with my M9 in one hand and a flashlight (Mag-light) in the other hand. If anybody knows of a system that I can put on my M9 (it has no rail as do the newer models) then please tell me about it.

I also keep a dummy hand-grenade (the type sold at surplus stores) next to my bed, which I can throw down the stairs in the event of some wrongful raid by whacked out bounty hunters (hey, this crap happens) and I also keep a CS gas grenade that I can hurl down the stairs if I need to... My bed in relation to my bedroom door and the top of the hallway where the stairs begin and lead downstairs gives me a perfect position from which to hurl things. A dummy hand grenade might buy you 5-10 seconds, maybe even more, as it will probably scare the hell out of people. My dad and I are mainly worried (well at least I am) about home invasion. Particularly from power-tripping cops who have the wrong address, get lost in the dark, etc, or from crazed bounty hunters with the wrong address... In all probability, you will NOT be able to talk these people down (even if you want to try, and chance that they are genuine cops/bounty hunters and not crooks/gangsters/thugs) since they will be psyched up. You will have to engage them and win against their first wave attack, and then try to negotiate from there... If the police botch a raid, you have to bet on them carrying it through (at this day in age) and not being open to listening you when you try to tell them you are the wrong guy... They'll listen once they have your house surrounded and negotiators in place, but this will require you first bloody the nose of the initial assaulting force... One side is going to get it hard, just make sure that side is not your family... Better it be the enforcers of tyranny or power-tripping bounty hunters... If armed men storm into my house in the middle of the night, they are going to take casualties... If the police ever have business with me, they can call me on the phone, announce their presence, and approach my property while showing a warrant. I will then permit them to enter into my residence unhindered.

If I had to, I could hurl a CS grenade downstairs, have my dad enter my room and then he masks up, I mask up, and then I slide my armor on while he covers me, he puts on his armor while I cover him, and I hand him my Mini-14 (I sleep with this out and next to my bed) while I get either an AK-47, AR-15 or Remington 870 tactical model (with factory extension) all of which are kept fully loaded in a safe in my room. I keep the AK-47 loaded with hollow points to allow for maximum damage to likely opponents (who will be without body armor, although it doesn't really matter unless they have decent plates) and to lessen the chance of it going through multiple walls upon walls.

My dad and I have code-words worked out, for what we will shout across the hallway in the event the house security has been compromised and intruders are in... We know what means "free fire zone, go prone" -which is a prelude to opening fire on anything that is above three-four feet in height and is moving-.

unholsered .357 mag 1 foot away, pump shotty 3 feet away, both loaded.
no kids, roommates etc.
