Ever since I "discovered" the 12 gauge shotgun, I have become furiously addicted to it. I have come up with many ways to convince my wife that I can afford and/or need another shotty. Well, its basically come down to this (pr my wifes, umm, suggestion): wait many, many months for another shotty or sell a gun in order to acquire another 12 gauge much, much sooner.

The gun I am thinking about selling is my Springfield Armory XD-45ACP and the shotgun I am thinking about replacing it with is either a Remington 870P or a Mossberg 930 SPX. Now, given these somewhat unsteady political times regarding high capacity semi-automatics (handguns), Ive been somewhat hesitant about selling the XD as should things go south, who knows when or if I may be able to acquire another handgun such as this. However, given my love of shotguns and lets face it, the obvious HD advantages/fun factor vs a handgun, I am tempted to overlook the "political" issue(s) and frankly, I have become somewhat bored with handguns. Besides, I have a Sig Sauer .45 ACP sitting in the safe as well, so its not as if selling the XD will leave me sans handgun.

So, Im looking for some opinions regarding this decision, even though I realize the final one is up to me. Thanks......

As much as I like pistols, I think I want to say go for it. Like you said you've got the Sig. You can never have enough guns. If momma can get her hair and nails done every week or so... I bet if you add that up you could just go ahead and buy yourself another shotgun.

Keep the XD45, you can always get a Rem 870.

Add up your vices or that of the wife... then cut it in half with a savings budget and a few months later? Voila! New addition to your guns.

Dont get addicited to buying guns. We've two shotties and one pistol, quite enough.

I think a good used 870 or 500 is, what, half the price of an XD? maybe it's time for you to count up your pocket change. i just "made" $76 from my change pile that i finally cashed. (and then i spend several hundred for ammo!)

TMM

a shotgun is a shotgun is a shotgun.. I have several, and I like and use them all, but saying every pistol is the same is pretty rediculous.. there are so many models that would be useful in a variety of sitations..

although as a first gun... for home defense reasons, I would difinitely suggest a shotgun.... somewhat off topic but still relevant...

Thanks for the replies....I guess I should have mentioned that I already have a Mossberg 590 and a Benelli SNT. But, frankly, Im having so much fun with these two that Im "chomping at the bit" for more! ;)

If you want even more fun, skip getting yet another buckshot-slinger (you already have two very good ones) and get a nice O/U and shoot flying clay objects.

Then you could start selling yourself on the street corner to buy more shotguns.

If you like the .45, keep it and save your pennies. Shotguns ain't that expensive.

I just traded my 1911 last week for a Fausti SxS. If your gonna get another shotgun, try a nice double barrel. You already have a foghting shotgun, so get a sporting one now.

One or two OT shifts will pay for an Express, or even better an old WM.

I'm no big fan of the XD, it feels weird in my hand. But, it will be harder to replace than an 870.

I voted to keep the Springfield. Good luck....

Pawnshops and gun stores are overrun with an abundance of shotguns. XDs however are rare and more expensive.

Besides, you need a one handed weapon too.

Keep the XD.

Besides you can shorten your wait with some simple budgeting. Does anyone really NEED both a land line and a cell phone. (dial-up users with prepaid phones need not apply.)

Asking for opinions on this is not really helpful, IMO.
Only YOU will know if you'll regret selling off the XD or saving up for the new shotgun.
Only YOU will know in your heart whether it was a good move or not after the fact.
None of us out here know your heart as well as you and your wife. This is a choice you need to weigh the pros and cons of as only you will truly know if it was a good move or not. Not a bunch of 'net buddies and brothers-in-arms who know you only through what you write here.

Now, having said all that, I'll take a stab at it.

If you have another .45, (and a Sig ain't too freakin' shabby) you can scratch the itch for a new shotgun by trading/selling off the extra .45. As long as you already have at least one .45 ACP, the rest are spares. Unless your a two fisted pistolero.

But, honestly, if you already have shotguns (plural), do you really feel the need to sell off a handgun for yet another shotgun?

I was contemplating the idea to sell my USP40 Compact (earlier version) for a shotgun, but decided to keep it (the Stainless slide which HK has stopped producing).

heck, thanks to Hussen Obama (I just give him the "credit" coz he's now the P) I use the tax refund and bought a 870.... wife is now complaining, she said that I shoulda get an AR .. :D coz I've also bought a bag, Otis cleaning kit, Hogue stock, sidesaddle, SS follower, sling, .... and an extra 26" barrel.

But I think I'm done nuff shopping :D

sell one to get another...

Take it from one who did just what you're thinking of doing. I sold a Browning Hi Power 9MM to purchase something else. Well I love the something else but I miss the Hi Power ALMOST as much as I love that something else.
Granted I wanted to get away from 9MM and into 45 ACP. But it still would be nice to know I had it tucked away. I've heard some say that it's fine to shoot the 9MM since ammo is cheaper than 45 ACP. But I feel that if you want to be proficient with a gun, use THAT gun not another because the ammo costs less.
Anyhow... That's my .02 for you. Keep what you're got and save for what you want.

You have another .45, so the XD is redundant. Sell off the .45 you like less and buy the shotgun.
