I'll second that Bear.

I'm back here in FL. It takes a good drive to get out to the country here. It certainly isn't like shootin' back home. (KY) There all you need to do is buy some ammo and head out. Here you run into range fees, formalities, etc. It is kind of nice to be able to shoot at formal ranges though. You also have the option, at many places, to rent range guns.

I can plink .22's in yard but most shooting is at one of three clubs - all private. Two are very local and more often than not, particularly if on weekday - I have place to myself.

The other club is about 40 minutes away but has great facilities and is where I shoot IDPA and pins. Occasionally too - meet some guys and shoot on private property.

How about:

Private JUNKY property with permission?

I shoot at a landfill where I work as a welder. Actually, the area I shoot isn't "junky" - the wooded areas and fields are quite nice. Great paintball battlefields too.

Two club ranges.
Indoor commercial range.
Public shooting area.
Ranked by frequency.

Mostly indoor bullseye and IDPA.
Not much rifle or shotgun.

at the range! its 2 miles from my house and dues are only 25 bucks for the whole year, as much acess as you want to a 330m rifle range, outdoor pistol range to 100 yards. indoor pistol range skeet and trap houses (must by range birds though)

never been to any other range

Sanctioned range, most of the time. There are a few occasions that I'm with a friend and we put a few rounds through my thompson, AR, or 590 on private land, but >90% of the time I'm at an indoor range.

I shoot at the FOP Range in Pleasant Grove, a suburb of Birmingham. It's easy to get membership, and it is supervised, has a shop, and hosts competition, if that's your thing.

There is also a public range in a nearby wilderness area (the Cahaba Wildlife Refuge), as well as a couple of other private ranges, which I'm not familiar with.

i shoot on my own property to 200 yds have to go to a public rage to shoot beyond that right now. i dont want to cut down a bunch of trees to shoot further

Company I work for let the employees build a range on their property. Concrete benches from 100 to 400 yards. A seperate pistol range is still in the works.

I think you need multiple choices on this poll. I have shot at all but my own property in the last year.

I answered sanctioned range, because that's about the only place I CAN shoot around where I live. I used to shoot up at my girlfriend's parent's home out back (since they live in the deep rural), but her parents and I have had some major differences of opinion, so I've kept my distance. That, and her parents have just bought an SKS and have anger issues , so I've kept my distance.

Only thing that sucks is that my local range only allows me to shoot at paper targets (and I would really love to "blow up" some old junk sometime :d ).

Just over the ridge......

At the Alice Springs Shooting Complex. :)

We have a 1200 metre rifle range,
a 500 metre general range,
a 200 metre silhouette range
A shotgun trap range
and three dedicated 50 metre pistol ranges under construction (well, as soon as the police who closed our two former pistol ranges get around to approving the plans they will be).

600 metres from where I'm typing as the wedgetail eagle flies....
Three K's if the eagle walks the road. :)

There's a lot of land to shoot on here in the N.T.,
but you'll need permission from somebody first.

most shots fired off back porch, sometimes shoot in son's Big backyard with 200 ft steep hill for backstop. mostly at home on 80 yard range. i dont want to cut down trees either, sides 80 yds is about the upper limit for me to group well. there is a U.S. Forest service range about 5 mi away, but yokels have trashed it. they show up, i leave. beer, guns, big mouths just not for me. but, they have a good time and haven't killed each other yet.

You forgot to add the Arizona desert to your poll. And it is not junky....yet

When not plinking in the desert, I go to Rio Salado. Which is still plinking in the desert but with target stands. :D
