We seem to be having issues with folk trying to turn THR into some form of news outlet for anything tangentially involving a gun, and that simply fails to support the mission statement of THR:
It is the declared mission of this board to achieve and provide the highest quality of firearms discussion on the Internet
Just because a news story has a gun associated with it does NOT make it suitable for discussion on THR. News stories are suitable for discussion here only when the story contains clear and unambiguous self-defense, home defense, firearms-centric, or RKBA aspects *and* when there is readily discernible detail in the news accounts sufficient to support a rational discussion.

If the news story does not fall within those qualifiers, please don't post it. If you are unsure of the appropriateness of the story for discussion here, then please PM a moderator and ask.

The existing name and the description on the index page seems to indicate that anything firearm related would be acceptable.
The definition of firearms-related seem to be in question. This sticky is intended to clarify that, at least insofar as the General Gun Discussions (GGD) forum is concerned.

Meet fellow forum members, find a common ground. Introduce new people to responsible firearm ownership. Posts must be related to firearms.
This is exactly the standard being enforced here in GGD, and this sticky is only intended to address GGD.

For example, posting a story in GGD about some folk being accidentally shot by a police officer during a drug raid is NOT a post about firearms. It's a post about police conduct, and the replies in the thread clearly indicate that everyone reading the story 'gets' that. That is exactly the kind of thread that has no place on THR, despite the fact that yes, a gun and a bullet were involved in the story...

Have to agree with Norinco. The parameters stated seem to differ from those enforced.
Then I am forced to conclude that you are not paying attention to the moderation of this forum. If you, or anyone else, would like to PM me to provide examples of thread closures that do not conform to the rules and the forum stickies (including this one) - I'd be more than pleased to address them.

This thread was not intended as a discussion thread, but to be informative. Accordingly, I'm closing it but not deleting the commentary, since it hopefully provides clarification.
