Pot Luck .357 brass… suggestion?

I just don’t understand the point of Mid-Range .357??? when .38 will do. I want to load these .357 to 10% under max! 158 doing 1250+ sounds about right!
What do you consider the “midrange” of .357magnum? The max specs for .38Spl is 17kpsi while the max specs for .357 is 35kpsi. If you consider .38+P (20kpsi) the bottom of the .357Mag range then 28kpsi is a midrange load - 20% below max.
I guess some folks might consider anything less than kaboom to be a mild load but they don’t tend to last long so I don’t count them opinions.

Here a odd one. Was at my local honey hole and they had .357 brass for sale. They were selling it for $10 a pound. bought the bucket of 7# and get home to sorting

800~ total

but 225 was primed and flared. Would you guy load these? or should I test them. Nickel cases, no corrosion, looks find. But what to do?

then I find 8 loaded .357 Wadcutters the type you seat all the way down can crimp over. Same head stamp of Super-X … pull or shoot?

First of all, those do NOT look like Wadcutters...more like gas checks that have been seated upside down over a shot load. My habit has been to disassemble all loads that have been done by others, because you never know what manner of tomfoolery others have been up to. Be well!

Fancy way to make a rodent/snake load. Primer, then a pinch of powder.
Gas check to hold the powder down, pour in the shot.
Another gas check to hold the shot in place.

Advanced technique.

I'm betting the maker knew what he or she was doing.
Amazing and I’m glade I can share this load with you folks!

but how did he/she make this?

That’s a properly constructed rat/snake load.
over built to last! the crimp is just enough to hold everything in! I had to take a good wack with the kinetic hammer to get it out and 4-6 wacks to get out the powder check

To fill the gap between full power .38 Spl and full power .357 Mag, of course. But yes, 158s at around 1200/1250 FPS.

thanks
I’ve been using RMR 147 grain Smiley Face bullets with 3.5 grains of Bullseye in my .357 Mag brass. Very mild, extremely accurate, fun to shoot and no carbon ring. My grandkids love it too. You can’t go wrong with this load.
the carbon ring makes total sense, especially if you shoot a ton of .357! shoot a few .38 in .357 and the bullets won’t go in the cylinder.

I had that problem with .454C in .460 mag. Was STUCK!

Having loaded the .357 mag for over 50 years I'm of the opinion that there is a lot of difference between even a warm .38 SPL load and what I consider a mid range .357 mag load.

having never loaded .357… I thanks you.

so .357 mag is like a Hot .38! I’m liking .357 more & more!

Very hot .38 Spl. They made the case longer so you couldn't chamber it in .38 Spl guns, especially old ones, and blow yourself up. Much greater pressure limit.
