Exactly. With a necked-up .243, no less. I think it was just a way of stirring the pot and I was dumb enough to take the bait.
If I was just stirring the pot, I would have posted in the hunting section. Here I was asking the question prudent to this section. And necking up a 6mm case to 6.5mm when both use the same parent case (.308) is not really unusual. I mean I started this gun using .308 necked down which involved a good bit of neck turning to get it in. And I use 6mm Remington and 7x57 for the brass for my .257 Roberts not a detriment at all.

How has your ES been with the necked and turned Hornady brass? How many firings on it?

Brand new so I won't know till I load it. I had already found them for $15/50 on clearance so I bought them up. I figured I would prep and save them as this bullet change as coming this spring to give me time to work up the load, get my notes together, and plenty of shooting in. New brass vs the .308 necked down I have been using. Definitely a ton easier to prep! and the weights were a ton more consistent as well. I expect good results and a low spread.

On my old brass I found the second firing for some reason was a bit lower on muzzle velocity. Subsequent firings were in line with the second. This is despite FL sizing. Maybe you know why this could happen? I was bumping the shoulders back just enough to drop in clean and no more.

Of course, that would be when the Corps decided to send me off to school in CA where I can't take the rifle or load. So I won't likely be showing any kill pics this year. Found out it was certain after posting this up already so I continued the planning. I might have time to get the initial loads shot and answer your question before I go in Feb. Regardless, I will need the test results anyways. Might have to wait my return in the summer though for anything further.

I can take the lever guns though and a little H&R .243 to kill some yotes at less controversial ranges in the Mojave Desert. I just will only have a hand press set up to work with out there. And no gas gun... That goes to in a different forum though.

Try to find where the deer bed down and set up for your shots to there at any range. Less controversial that way and they tend to stay put well lol. I have been lucky enough to get a few like that.

Your velocity could be lower possibly because you are not sizing the cases down as much as the first firing? On my brass, even for gassers, I do not size them fully, ie ram contacting shellholder plus a little or whatever. Not sure how much of a difference but might be noticeable.
