Geezs, I have about 10 1lb. cans of powder in original containers from the late 70's early 80's and several thousand primers also. All stored in separate cabinets in a spare bedroom. I never once thought about self ignition.

Take a look at the posts I referenced. I recommend you sniff test your powder. If your powder has a "neutral" smell, it has passed middle age and is over the hill. Separate that stuff out. If you powder has a nice "ether" smell, it is good, don't worry out it. If you see fuming red nitric acid, such as the picture in one thread, or the smell knocks your socks off (from fuming red nitric acid gas) get that stuff out of the house, pour it out on the lawn, because it is only a matter of time till it auto combusts.

The powder that has a neutral smell, load it up and shoot it up. Don't let it or the cartridges you loaded sit on the shelf long. If you have pressure problems with your loaded cartridges, pour the stuff out on the lawn. Better that than a blown up firearm.

Thanks Slamfire. I am doing the sniff tests today. By the way, the price tags on this powder ranges from $3.60 to $3.96 per lb.
