awhile back I posted a thread about WST powder not performing in .45acp and later I came to realize I had loaded them in SPP brass, once I used LPP brass the issue vanished. Has anyone else had similar findings? If so has anyone found a powder preference for the SPP brass?

I use 700X with my 230 grain loads either lead or jacketed and they work the same with either size primer. No difference noted but I have not run them over the crony yet either. That is about the only size bullet size I load for 45 ACP though. Also the same results using Red Dot/Promo at near max charge.

Well I'll be. Never thought of that. Now I have to try 5.0gr. of WST with a LSWC in a SPP case and do a SxS comparison. Very interesting.

Oh, and for me, all I've tried in .45ACP SPP so far is W231 with a Valiant 200gr. LSWC and HS6 with a 230gr. Speer LRN - but the HS6/230LRN was an accident, not on purpose. I didn't really notice a difference but it was only one round.
W231 seems not to care at all. I've loaded a bunch of those for plinking at the indoor range and they all run fine.

That's interesting since I have never tested using the SP brass. WST is my go to powder for 45acp target loads. I do know I get less velocity using the SP brass vs LP, 20-35 fps. I have much more LP than SP, 10k+ vs 1k. Have enough primers for either so it's not a problem. I rather save my SP primers for calibers that require them.

I will qualify my loads above by saying that they were just below max load. If you are just moving the slide back, the low power when using a small primer may not allow the slide to operate. Using max charge might make a difference and work close to the same independent of primer size.

I load WST and 200gr SWC in .45 SPP all the time with no statistically significant difference wrt LPP. Most of the time the SPP is Blazer, at least that’s what was measured. Good luck.
