Praise for Ruger's P97

I recently bought a Ruger P97 after having talked to Mike Smisko at Ruger about previous problems with the slide stop working loose. He assured me the problems were fixed. So, I got it.

My P97 has an excellent fit and feels "tight." It fits my hand perfectly with the slim grip and single stack mag. It seems small and light enough to carry IWB, but big enough as a "duty" sized gun.

Put 350 rounds through it with no problems at all. It is very accurate in my hands out to 25 yards, and I found that I actually shoot it better than my Springfield 1911 and my Glock 21. I like the trigger. The single action stroke is a bit long, but provides a nice surprise break without almost no "stacking."

I think the P97 could compete with a Sig or HK at the range, and costs 319.00 brand spankin' new. Is this gun one of the best kept secrets in the industry?

A well kept secret it is........

I Bought my P97 about a year ago. Not sure what I was getting. I just wanted another .45 to keep my old Colt company. It has been a truely great pistol. Easily as accurate as my Gov't model and it eats everything I feed it. Best of all, it has never, ever malfunctioned....not even once. How boring is that? I believe it's certainly on the same level as pistols costing twice as much or more.

I recently sold one of these pistols. I now regret it. Did the Ruger rep say the issue with the slide stop was fixed on Your gun.? Or, did they come up with a fix for all p97's.( I know it was a fairly rare problem, but I had heard about it.) I may buy another one. Anyone know if Ruger is offering the $40.00 rebate on p series pistols right now? Thanks

I recently sold one of these pistols. I now regret it.

Been there. Done that. Twice even.

Sold a P95 and a P97 to finance a very bad case of CZ-itis. As soon as I could afford it, I bought new replacements for both guns. In the case of the P97, the new one was more accurate than the first. The new P95 is just as accurate as the old one. Won't let that happen again.

Ammo first---

The Ruger rep. told me that they slightly redesigned the camblock to provide more tension on the slide stop. So the fix applies to all P97's and they will send out the new parts for any older guns that may show this problem.

The slide stop on my P97 definitely takes some tugging to get it out, kind of like on a 1911 slide stop. Bottom line, the issue seems to be solved. The Ruger rep. (a very helpful guy, by the way) told me that he has not seen a P97 back for repairs in quite a long time. If true, that's really saying something because there has to be thousands of these guns out there.
