I have a thread on a S&W model 13 I saw at the flea market I started about a week ago. In that time, I've started to consider some of my other options.

Among some other things that I didn't pay much attention to, there was also a Charter Arms Bulldog that a different seller was asking $450 for.

I like the idea of a big bore revolver, but it seems to me that the Bulldog is more of a strictly carry gun than something meant to handle being shot a lot.

I'm just curious, is Charter Arms comparable quality-wise to Taurus?

Is this a new, or old Bulldog?

$450 for a Bulldog is RIDICULOUS.

I'm in WA State, and right now, my LGS has a brand new Bulldog for $350. You should be able to get a nice, vintage Bulldog for around $300. I picked one up a few months ago for $269.

Quality-wise, the current generation of Charters is fine. So are the older ones. The ones made in the 90s when the company was called "Charco" should be avoided.

I shoot my both of my Bulldogs at the range. I mainly practice with soft-loaded cowboy action rounds.

Go over any Charter with a fine tooth comb checking the revolver's timing and lock-up even new from the factory.

The price for a brand new stainless Bulldog is <$400

If you find a solid one they make very good carry guns, not range guns. Carry it a lot, shoot it a little. Mild .44 Special loads are great man-stoppers.

Anyone willing to overprice so much what is likely a used gun probably isn't willing to negotiate to a fair price. I think I'll pass.

Actually, I'm increasingly thinking that maybe I won't get anything. Perhaps I'll keep my money for another day. I guess I'll go back to look at that S&W. But I'm leaning towards not buying.

379.99-399.99 for NIB SS ones in my neck of the woods. 450 is way too high. Avoid Charters that are marked Charco or Charter 2000,too many QC issues during this period.
I personally do not like Taurus and have had better luck with older or the newer Charters.
Charters have a few quirks such as screws loosening up,a little decreasing and some 242 blue thread locker and you are gtg.

I purchased an older Charter Pathfinder 22 that was priced on the cheap. The store clerk said it had an issue of not unlocking the cylinder.Knowing the problem I negotiated and purchased the nice little blued revolver. The screw in the center of the recoil shield backed in,so i took it out, decreased and put some 242 on it and viola.

Charter is in good hands right now.The Bulldog is good for carry often shoot a little.
