Price check M1A with 5,000 rounds

At a gunshow today. Ran into a guy selling an M1A stainless match barrel and synthetic stock with 5,000 rounds and 5 mags for, bipod, and a huge rail system .....

$2,500!

He was walking around for hours with it.

Seems to me like a great deal, but I didn't have the cash. I got his phone number if I decide to buy it...

I'd place it at $3500-ish... Figure the ammo is .40 cents each so that's $2000. Then the rifle is at least $1500.

What do you think?

Up here in Canada, 7.62x51 surplus ammo is going for $0.75 - $1.00 a round.
If I found a deal like that, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

Buy it! Im sure its surplus ammo. You can't go wrong with that deal especially if its a VLTOR rail and the rifle is in good shape. The mags are worth $100.

Just a thought, if the ammo doesn't shoot well through the rifle, the 5000 rounds are arguably not worth as much. Just an idea. Either way, though, you can most likely resell them and get their value back and still get a great deal on the rifle.

That's a steal, you could get 90%+ of your money back by selling the ammo.

Well, I met the seller and we re-negotiated. He had miscounted and had 4,000 rounds. We agreed on a $2,400! Probably could have done better, but the seller was hinting seriously at backing out because he knew he could likely get a lot more if he shopped it around.

Package deal is pictured... Yes, it was a great deal.

I will likely part with the rail system. Can anyone identify or place a value on it?

Edit: Rail is a VLTOR and worth around $300. Any interested buyers in the rail. It's practically new.

Anyone know the value of this new condition VLTOR rail system for the M1A? I'm looking at selling it assuming I can remove it without any loss of critical weapon parts.


Edit: It's a VLTOR cluster rail and I guess worth $300. Any takers on the rail system?

I recently asked Springfield what it would cost for the extended rail to be installed on my M1A non-match synthetic stock scout, and they said ~$700. That's for the item and installation.
