Primer Ignition Device to replace Percussion Cap

Boats are too expensive for me, boat stands for bust out another thousand, and motor pickles scare me. I think I'm gonna stick to guns. And maybe old cars.

my Sister bought a boat 4 months ago and hit a sand bar with the prop… $5,000!
 
The only airplanes I've had were R/C.:D
I finally got a RC plane when I was around 20yo. Way too poor growing up to have those things. Anyway, had a Tower Hobby trainer .30 motor. 1st flight… CRASH !!! lol

same with Helicopter…. it just blow up, literally
 
I didn't get into it until my 50's. It is a learning process and can be an expensive process. I started with a Slow Stick which is just a stick with wings. Then I moved up to a trainer. I flew it for about a year and then drove it into the ground like a fence post. I've got a full balsa plane with a 99 inch wingspan I never finished because I got to where I just couldn't afford it.

Never buy ready to fly. You're wasting money on a transmitter. Get a good transmitter and matching receiver and buy almost ready to fly. Just add your receiver and battery. Buy a new plane, just add another receiver. A good transmitter will keep a list of the planes you fly and you won't have to set trim up every time. The transmitter will do it for you. I have a Spektrum DX8 but a DX6 is a good one too. Even cheaper is buy a kit and build it yourself. Electric engines are easier but don't have much flight time. You can get glow or nitro engines as powerful as you want.
 
Cessna's were great. My cousin had a 150 we would go up in and dink around with. A lot of fun. Problem was in a head wind if we were following an interstate the car would be passing us. It was like throwing money down a hole. My boats were much cheaper and very reliable. They had to be because I fished on Lake Erie and you don't want to be caught out there in a storm when broke down. Oh nooo!
In the ten years I fished up there I never broke down. I went all over the boat every spring and did what ever it needed. Treated it like an airplane, like my life depended on it and that Grady always brought me home.

Boat: a hole in the water surrounded by (wood, fiberglass, steel, aluminum, whatever) into which one throws money.
 
That looks like a great little plane! I too spent some seat time in a 150, even without a head wind the cars on the interstate were going faster than I was! Also flew a few hours in a 152 that was souped up, great little air plane and a bit faster than that 150.
 
A couple of problems:
1) it's going to substantially change you barrel pressure, so work up to a new load.
2) They are terribly slow for a follow up shot
3) Some ranges won't honor them in competition.

I got my license flying 152's and have time in my brother's 140, Citabre, 172's, a 182 float plane, this 170 and Piper Warrior's. But I haven't piloted a plane for over 15 years.
My brother liked skydiving too and his parachute failed in Superior Wisconsin. We had done ground school together and got our licenses a week apart then flew together. It wasn't much fun anymore without him.
 
Wow, sorry to hear about your brother. I am also a licensed aircraft mechanic and from what I've seen the FAA has taken a lot of the fun out of general aviation. Their motto is " we're not happy until you're not happy"
 
I wish I'd remember that from Ned Roberts' book. It was hard to put down. Anyway, I could have made one for myself when I was taking tools & practice (where we made all the tools to our heart's content).

In the last paragraph of this section Ned Roberts addresses some of your objections:
"Today, we find very few Muzzle-loading target rifles equipped with this device for using the rifle primer instead of the cap for ignition of the powder charge, despite the fact Warner, Brockway, Wm. V. Lowe, and many other experts of those days proved the primer method of ignition was the better and gave considerably better accuracy than the cap. Has some old hide-bound custom, or practice, prevented the present-day rifleman from using the primer ignition in the muzzle-loading rifle? If so, this custom should be ignored as this is a day of improvements- of progress and no old custom should be allowed to stand in the way of worthwhile improvements even in muzzle-loading rifle shooting. If the present rules do not allow the use of the primer instead of the percussion cap, those rules should be changed so as to allow this and promote improvements, instead of hindering this. The primer ignition device prevents all escape of gas to the outside and smutting the breech of the barrel and telescope, when that is used, which alone is sufficient to recommend its use in place of the percussion cap that causes erosion and corrosion of the water drain and beech of the barrel around the nipple."

IMHO, follow up shots with a muzzle-loader are never going to be quick, and using a primer ignition device is not going to add appreciably to the total time it takes.
 
IMO the use of primers instead of percussion caps should be outlawed in all competitions. The N-SSA should disallow drilled sights and powder puff loads. Traditional competitions should be done the way they were originally done and not "improved" by modern advantages.
