I went to the only source of primers/powders for 50 miles today. It's a large ACE Hardware affiliated store that has a good firearms section. I walked up to the counter and asked "powders? Primers?". The clerk said nope, and I continued to the bullet selection to try and find some bullets I have been looking for, namely Nosler BT in 180 grains and Hornady XTPs in 180 grain .401. Neither available. I do the same drive-by routine every 2-3 days and have been doing so for years.
It has been over two years since primers, powder, and bullets have been readily available.
This may be the new normal.
In other words, primers may simply be no longer available through normal retail channels.
I stumbled upon 1500 CCI SPP while on a road trip to Yuma, AZ a couple of months ago. They were $100 per thousand. I bought all I could.
At a year of components being non-existent, the optimists, as well as most of us, were saying that this has happened before and things will level off any time, now.
At a year and a half of components being non-existent, or showing up at stores every now and then, but being priced 300% higher, we kept saying that things will eventually return to normal, but may be higher priced that what we're used to.
Now, at over two years since components disappeared, and with there still being no products, and at what products trickle in, they are way over-priced, I think it is time to face reality and acknowledge that America has changed. Our supply system is broken. Our manufacturing sector is fractured. Inflation is skyrocketing and the dollar is collapsing.
I no longer worry about primers, but other necessities of life such as food and clean water.
Really not enjoying this new reality.
