TARGET SPORTS USA has primers in stock, $599/5000. Price gouging or fair game? I say free market fair game. No way I'd ever pay 12 cents per primer, but perhaps some would. Primers aren't necessary for my livelihood like foodstuffs, so I don't consider outrageous component prices gouging. Trying to take an extreme advantage of firearms enthusiasts with unreasonable pring, yes, but gouging, no. After the obummer shortage of ca.2008, I'll never give my business to CTD, a particular LGS and a few other sellers because of their excessive prices...I remember, I have a long memory. Target Sports may make my do-not-buy list, too. Rant mode off.

I also unsubscribed from CTD many years ago, for the same reason.

But the LGS, not me. They are 30-40% higher on everything than the local Scheels, Cabelas, Sportsmans. Maybe even higher on powder/primers.

Because of that, they still have stock in hard times, even had guns when no one else did.

I spent some money there in the last 18 months, too much money, but that was my choice.

I really wanted a lever in .357. And it had to have side feed so that eliminated the Henry at that time.

They had 3 Marlins and I bought one for $250 more than it’s worth. But to me, at the time, I felt the purchase held value for me.

I bought powder there 18 months ago as well. Paid outrageous prices, very similar to today’s prices.

Bought primers too. But at the worst times for primer acquisition, they only sold them to guys that bought their presses from them. Initially I was angry, seeing primers on the shelf they wouldn’t sell to me.

But I rationalized it on the way home. They were taking care of their regular customers. How could I be mad at that?

Primers are becoming available daily now. It seems the norm for today is about 85 bucks a thousand before shipping and hazmat. My lgs has been selling his for 65 a brick and he is not a quantity buyer like the big internet sellers. That should give you an idea about mark up.

You know the price before you order them or you can laugh. A deal is a deal when both the buyer and seller agree on a price, that’s placing an order.

Those are not the highest prices out there. I have plenty but would still sell what I do have for $5990/5000. You can feel free to post that all over the Internet if we are just looking for stupid prices, only suckers would pay…

:)

I'm seeing a flood of them, both online and at local stores the last couple weeks. They are now sitting on the shelf several days at ~8$/100. I was OUT of LP so I bought a few hundred. They can keep SR and SP at those prices. I have enough for awhile. Once most everyone does the same, we will see prices come down. I think we may be approaching that point. My local Farm and Fleet informs me of retail wholesale prices. They have a standard markup, and are not inflating. Their standard retail is $6.99 for CCI standard, $8.99 for CCI 41 and Federal Match. $7.99 for Federal LP. All primers were $3.50-4.50 pre-panic at the same location.

People are still cleaning the online companies out when primers show up at $80 to $100+ per 1K, so prices aren’t going to come down until this stops. Good, bad, or indifferent. Fair, not fair, doesn’t matter, when we stop buying all we can find at these prices it will stop and we’ll find our low when they get tired of sitting on inventory, just like last time. Until then……………..

Was driving by a local gunshop yesterday, have not been inside in months. Last time I was there, only ammo they had was behind the counter and they were holding it back for those that bought a gun.

Out of curiosity, dropped in to see what ammo they might have. Not as much as I'd hoped for.....but did have about a dozen powders.......and was told about a dozen more were coming in today, including 8 pounders of Varget????? Were also getting shotgun primers. About the last place I expected to find any of that......but there it was.

There are not many sources where you can buy 5K cases with no limit. And that includes shipping and hazmat. So once you compare to every other online retailer, they are pretty reasonable. IE, you can only buy 1K at a time from Midway, 2 at a time from Brownells, etc. 90 bucks, plus 30 bucks hazmat and shipping. So if you need 5K, you have to do that 5 times over a month (if they stay in stock that long). So that's 600 bucks...and you get mixed lots and likely won't get 5K before they go out of stock.

Honestly, TSUSA is the cheapest I've paid for primers in 18 months. I was paying more than that for Murom primers a year ago.

They ship free with no hazmat. If you buy 5K from Midway, you'll pay five hazmat fees plus shipping. And with TSU, you have a better chance of getting the same lots.
And no, I don't work for TSU nor do I need primers.

just like last time. Until then ...
Yup, just like last time and three component shortages before that. ;)

It's why we stock up between component shortage cycles and I do believe we have hit the bottom of current cycle and we are returning back to components being in stock again.

It may not feel that way at the moment but the things I am seeing are how things were before previous shortages acted before things returned back in stock at lower prices.

So I am continuing to use up stock I bought after last shortage but I am not buying primers at the moment and will stock back up when prices drop further.

I think most of the THR crowd is sitting on a couple of lifetime's worth of primers and don't need or want to buy any at the current pricing. Granted the newbies who didn't get started until after the plandemic started may be buying but only a few of such post here. We has seen the enema, and it ain't us. ;)

Primers are coming back in stock. I haven't seen prices dropping locally, and in fact they have gone up around here on both primers and powder recently, but I'm not actively seeking any.

BUT, ammo is back on the shelves, and is very easy to find right now, at least in the more common calibers. And I'm seeing some of the less common calibers on the shelves as well. And the prices aren't too stupid although they are higher than they were pre-pandemic. That could be caused by supply and demand or the current rate of inflation, or who knows what else. And even though prices are up, shelves being stocked is a good sign IMO.

I don't like $80/1000 primer prices, but I do like making and shooting my own ammo. We'll have to wait and see where prices end up.

If you don't mind loading Genix...I think they are nicer than Murom...you could take a look at Capital Cartridge. They are selling boxes if 5k for $475.
I don't mind Genix, but I have the same issue with them that I have with Murom. The airweight DA only revolvers will light strike them once in a while, and their small rifle are a straight up bear to seat. I'm not adverse to them, just the current price difference isn't enough for me to buy them if I can get Federal, CCI, or Remington.

Makes complete sense.

I'm using them to replace my CCI loads and saving my Federals for my revolvers

I don’t know if that’s true. I think reloaders are a tiny percent of the shooting world. It’s just that a few of them are very vocal about being reloaders so their numbers seem inflated.
I’m ne of those who started late, and only have 200 primers, but lots of everything else.

Local gun show last weekend, I bought 1000 Federal SR primers for $100. Vendor had maybe 14 boxes, didn’t see anyone else buying them though. I considered that a fair price.

also picked up the Lee 2nd edition manual just because you never have enough manuals.

overall things seemed pretty tame…. Moderate sized crowd, tasers buzzing in the background, and too many booths selling jerky, barbecue sauce, and useless knives.
