i have seen many gunsmithing posts on youtubes where the smiths have said that they are switching to synthetic lubes. the petroleum based lubes tend to gum up which makes sence when you think about it. before i bought my new smith and wesson 1911 i had looked at several reviews on youtube. one review showed a person breaking it down and cleaning it, then lubing it up with synthetic motor oil. would be the same thing? i've always just used rem oil for my glock and sw 642 and other rifles. any input from you guys that know a lot more about this kinda stuff would be helpful.

A light coating of synthetic grease on the rails, and on the underside where the slide contacts the hammer. Synthetic oil on all pivot points.
