In this VERY gun-friendly state I don't see this getting passage, let alone the governors signature.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. This Act shall be known and cited as the "George Amison Jr. Act".

Section 2. (a)(1) Any person who possesses an automatic or semi-automatic weapon shall register the weapon with the Department of Public Safety pursuant to the procedures established by the department. The registration shall contain a description of the weapon that identifies it uniquely, including all identification marks, the full name, address, date of birth, and thumbprint of the owner, and any other information that the department may deem appropriate. The department may charge a fee for registration of up to fifty dollars ($50).

(2) The department shall maintain the information received from each registrant in an automatic or semi-automatic weapon registry and information contained in the registry shall be released only to law enforcement officers.

(b)(1) Failure to register an automatic or semi-automatic weapon is a Class A misdemeanor.

(2) Notwithstanding subdivision (1), failure to register an automatic or semi-automatic weapon is a Class C felony if the weapon has been used by the person in the commission of a crime.

Whaaa??? what nutjob AL congressman/woman came up with this piece of garbage

I've freaking had it with this garbage. I'm going to write some letters and distribute them to every gun shop in AL. There are going to be some busy fax machines in some legislators offices.

You don't happen to have the email addresses of these idiots do you?

The real crime is the money is going to the "Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Fund" I've seen this money go to criminals who have been shot..

Current Gov. Bob signing this? Chances of an icecube in Hell.

But just think, fellow Alabamians, what would have been the chances if we'd elected that dimwit female last elections. The worm may not always turn, but its direction is never a foregone conclustion. Be always watchful.

Wow, sounds like the fun we're having here in Pennsylvania. Good luck to you--hammer your public servants.

Oh my!!

I guess I can assume that all those members are Democrats, but even in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile and Huntsville I can't imagine there's much support for this.

I moved from Maryland 2 1/2 years ago to get away from this nonsense!

I just emailed CAM and CO on NRA news on Sirrius Radio. Cam read the "talkback" and will try and get some more info for us tomorrow night on the show.

Most if not all of these knee jerk legislation attempts will fail.

But let the supporters of this legislative non sense know that come election time, they will be gone.

I don't know if one is already up, but a web site that keeps track of anti gun legislation supporters so come election time you would just click on your state and the names would come up.

Even if a piece of legislation was voted down two years ago, they would still be there.

Call the web site: The Scarlet Letter (T for traitor)

I love this. Registration, fingerprints, AND a $50 tax. Never too busy "fighting crime" to add in a new tax!

Perhaps the IRS should adopt the anti-gunners slogan "it's for the children!"

I started this thread without pointing out an important fact.

Just so you know, this proposal was entered into the Legislative Record during the first week of April, before the VT incident. It's not a knee-jerk reaction to the mass murderer who used a semi-auto to kill 32 innocents.

That, I believe, makes it even harder to understand.

Thanks for the heads up on this. As you have noted, it will have not chance, but its still an example of how we can't stop fighting even in a pro-gun state like good old bama.

I'd like us to band together and lets get this short barrel rifle/shotgun ban overturned. Any ideas?

Just shot off an email to Hinton Mitchum and Jeff McLaughlin, my reps in the Alabama House and Senate.

Just so happens that Mitchum is the President Pro Tempore of the Alabama Senate. Also just so happens that his house is about a 10 minute drive from mine.

Give Mitchum's office a call:

More contact info for Senator Mitchum, President Pro Tempore:

This particular bill might not make it but its a good indicator of how the Liberals are taking over the State of Alabama......I see examples of it everyday here in huntsville......The Liberals are taking over the south day by day......

In this VERY gun-friendly state I don't see this getting passage, let alone the governors signature.
You might be surprised. Alabama's ban on short-barreled rifles and shotguns didn't materialize out of thin air...

This is the kind of crap you'd expect from California, but come on, Alabama?

I thought that along with Texas, Alabama was supposed to be the reddest state in the union!
