Proposed AL bill would register every semi-auto, fingerprint owners and tax $50 each

In this VERY gun-friendly state I don't see this getting passage, let alone the governors signature.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. This Act shall be known and cited as the "George Amison Jr. Act".

Section 2. (a)(1) Any person who possesses an automatic or semi-automatic weapon shall register the weapon with the Department of Public Safety pursuant to the procedures established by the department. The registration shall contain a description of the weapon that identifies it uniquely, including all identification marks, the full name, address, date of birth, and thumbprint of the owner, and any other information that the department may deem appropriate. The department may charge a fee for registration of up to fifty dollars ($50).

(2) The department shall maintain the information received from each registrant in an automatic or semi-automatic weapon registry and information contained in the registry shall be released only to law enforcement officers.

(b)(1) Failure to register an automatic or semi-automatic weapon is a Class A misdemeanor.

(2) Notwithstanding subdivision (1), failure to register an automatic or semi-automatic weapon is a Class C felony if the weapon has been used by the person in the commission of a crime.

The real crime is the money is going to the "Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Fund" I've seen this money go to criminals who have been shot..

But let the supporters of this legislative non sense know that come election time, they will be gone.

I don't know if one is already up, but a web site that keeps track of anti gun legislation supporters so come election time you would just click on your state and the names would come up.

Even if a piece of legislation was voted down two years ago, they would still be there.

I started this thread without pointing out an important fact.

Just so you know, this proposal was entered into the Legislative Record during the first week of April, before the VT incident. It's not a knee-jerk reaction to the mass murderer who used a semi-auto to kill 32 innocents.

That, I believe, makes it even harder to understand.
