One thing I forgot to mention - I get better results with large pistol primers.

Slamfire 1 - b.p. velocity (Swiss 3F) 43 grs. by weight - 1,450 f.p.s.

Arkansas Paul - Actually, the rifle is actually easier to clean. About 4 to 5 patches and that's it! Getting a completely clean patch after shooting smokeless takes about 50% more......... Now the cases.....that's a different story. I soak them in a 50/50 white vinegar/water solution for about 1 minute then rinse with hot water.

scrat - Yes indeed. Me too! I like the plume of black smoke as well.

higene - I think you meant to say .321" diameter. I would suggest filling the case to about 1/3 to 1/2 way up the neck rather than completely full. I found the best accuracy came with that much powder.

Okay, I finally got to go out on Sunday and shoot with the kids. For grins I took my '94 Marlin (44 Mag/Spc). I had 15 smokeless rounds left and 35 Black Powder 44 Special loads with 26gr 3f. I let the grandkids shoot up the smokeless first. Then....I loaded 5 Black Powder cartridges in it. I don't know what I expected but I was suitably impressed when my daugter fired the first one. I had my back to her loading a pistol when the BOOOOM!!! roared down the range.

The wind was blowing bloody blazes so I didn't take the Chrony, but the next trip out will include it.

So Scrat...if you haven't done it yet, put some Holy Black in a few cartridges and give the lever gun some exercise. Cleaning was pretty easy too, Moose Milk, brush, and patches. I didn't have much if any blowback from the brass so I didn't pull the action apart yet. I had her soaked pretty good in Ballistol to start with.

It just seems like every time I try a different gun with Black Powder I think to myself "Why did I take so long to try this?"
