Hey guy, first post here. Wanted to get the community's feedback on project I have been working on for my PS90. Most PS90 owners including myself don't like all that awkward barrel sticking out of the gun and there really aren't many options for rails and shrouds that help break up the look. And the ones that are out there mount to the barrel which isn't optimal because the barrel moves...

I came up with a design that utilizes existing mounting points on the gun (not the barrel). I used a thumb screw on the bottom to keep field stripping fast/easy. The rails are all off the shelf Magpul parts.

The design not only covers up the barrel and adds rails, it also adds a forward grip position.

The part itself is an SLS 3D print. A quality industrial print, not that desktop cheap crap that is all the rage these days. It is a black nylon (data sheet).

I really just made this for myself but if there is interest I may be able to be swayed to have a bunch made.

Check it out and lemme know what you think.

Screams "airsoft" as is, but it would make a great mockup for when you have something machined.
Make it out if something stronger than plastic and i think you'd have something

looks interesting. does it use an existing hole for the mounting hardware? Also..what's wrong with a shroud that attaches to the barrel (besides not allowing for the factory harness to clip on of course)?

My shroud didn't touch the chassis at all and was snug.

I'll take one in aluminum, but I'll have to get a ps-90 first...

Yes, uses all factory mounting locations on the tri-rail version.

The problem with mounting to the barrel is the barrel moves/twists. If you mount something with rails to it its difficult to keep anything mounted to them zeroed in.

For a shroud that the gun was not intended to have you did a great job on the concept and design execution. If this were molded out of a glass filled plastic for greater strength and stiffness I suspect it would be battle field worthy. And style wise it fits right in with the look of the gun.

The thumb nut needs to go and be replaced by a nice low profile T shaped piece that sits down with a flush top. But I'm sure you already know that.

Thanks! As for the nut was also thinking of maybe an HK style sling pin since this shroud covers up where some current PS90 sling systems mount.

interesting design.

this is the quad rail i bought for mine back in 2007 (geez has it been that long?)

it looked cool, and was mostly functional, but the method of attachment (which seems to be similar to yours) wasn't secure enough to zero a laser. it had some wiggle.

Yup, I had that same one. Its failures are what led me to design my own. :)

was it made for a real one or an Airsoft version? I saw a lot of PS90 guys using Airsoft parts and wondering why they don't hold up.

I believe all versions of that quadrail were the "airsoft version". There was a company "MagazineParts" that was selling them and scamming people as it was actually the airsoft version plus 400 bucks... I was one of those people. The part itself was well built and held up with with some loctite but the method for mounting was just terrible.

Been saying it for awhile now.. With a plastic trigger group and a plastic stock.. PS90's and FS2000's would be make great "ghost gun" 3d printer projects.

(You'd need to fit a 223 barrel and build the metal pieces on a normal mill, but I didn't see many particularly difficult machining operations when I was pondering it.)

;)

That looks very nice. I am actually looking to buy a ps90 here in the next month or so. I think I would rather pay the $200 for a tax stamp and have it SBR'd and threaded - probably the route I will take. My 22 can is suppose to be able to handle the 5.7 round so that will make it even cooler.

Very neat design. If I had a PS90 I would definitely be interested in your barrel shroud.

I have been doing a lot of the same kinda work on HK guns (SL8, g36, UMP..) Love me some plastic guns.

If you would like to follow this one and see some of my other cool ideas you can do so on facebook and google+. And before the mods flip out these are simply design/innovation pages. No sales/profit.

I actually just started on a new PS90/P90 project that will compliment this one nicely. Got the rear end of the gun modeled up as a starting point and going to start building today. Any guesses? :)

I dunno, but if you're taking requests, an AR15 style selector would be neat. ;)

(Just messing around, I know there isn't room. The little dial throws me off when I switch from one rifle to another; the spin dial thing on the FS2000 and PS90 has always made my brain go sideways for some reason)

I have considered an SBR for mine but it would limit where I can shoot it. I spin a lot of lead at a Georgia DNR range and it wouldn't be allowed. I even had one range officer question my standard PS90 as to length.

Wow, very cool. You actually managed to make the PS90 not look like an anteater --bravo :D. Part of me snickers when folks add foregrips to these (I know, the factory one isn't necessarily favored by lots of folks) simply because it's like putting three sleeves on a sweater, but this execution looks pretty good.

I'm in the midst of the opposite design conundrum (I think) in trying to turn an Airsoft MP7 into a 5.7x28 semi. I may have to hit you up on your SLS contacts when I get closer to the prototype phase ;)
