Take a look at what our astute TSA folks detected:
View attachment 1184209

EVERY single media story devoted only a couple sentences to the "anti aircraft" round, simply segued in to reportage on how many idiots have tried to take firearms in their carry-on bags on to aircraft. Think the media doesn't have an agenda?
Useful Village Idiots.

Busted up Thermos from a Seattle Homeless Encampment, Rages from the Honeypot at the airport Uber waiting lot, random freaken metal bits.

STORY DOES NOT ADD UP

I’m not seeing a “round”.

Much less anyway it could become usable.

Must be more to the story.

WWII relic? Pearl harbor is Honolulu. The picture makes it look like the projectile has been around for a while?

TSA might be too stupid to know the difference between a round of ammunition and a .50 cal projectile but they were at least doing their job.

First of all you can’t fly with over over 3.4oz (100ml) of any liquid to begin with in your carry on.

If I wanted to conceal it I would have at least used a lead lined Thermos

LOL! A lead lined Thermos, no red flags there!

I think I would have put an eye screw in the bottom then put it on my keychain. If they confiscated it at least you wouldn't look like you were trying to smuggle something... like nuclear fissionable material.

Typical media reporting. Getting it wrong, one story at a time.

You are looking at it the wrong way. It is not really "wrong", it just makes their position stronger. They did it in just the right way, really the best way. A headline is all that is needed.

You need to quit referring to it a media but use propaganda, because that is just what it is. Pushing the views and positions of a single side of a debate.

We used to say it at work on the dumber cases

''Book 'em Danno. Stupid-1.''

(for you kids on the forum, old 70s Hawaii Five-O reference)

....and I'm still looking for the PSA sale, I need some 556 or 300 for $7.50/bx and around $10/bx on the 300:cool:

I can only guess the expended bullet might have been found somewhere, possibly a relic of the Pearl Harbor attack that had an anniversary just last week?

Numbskull decided to hide it in a container full of coffee to bring it into the plane, when he cant take a thermos full of liquid on a plane anyway, instead of checking or mailing it. And here we are.

I don't see any paint on the projectile to determine if it is an armor piercing-incendiary round, which it may be with whatever incendiary material used still inside, or just a plain lead core fmj ball round. (It looks like ball, but thats just from the pictures.)

Oh well, stupid is as stupid does.

Stay safe.

Agree it did look "old".

The "Media" actually just reported what the TSA gave them. If we disagree with the TSA assessment, that's one thing but some of us are just incoherently, reflexively spouting which is unhelpful.

From the article.

Note: TSA officials initially reported that the suspicious item was a .50 caliber. They have clarified that the item is a 50 caliber anti-aircraft round on Tuesday.

Wanna blame someone...blame the 52 year old idiot that intentionally tried to smuggle this onto the aircraft instead of dropping it in an $8 flat rate box. He made the decision and caused hours of disruption because he was caught in an x-ray screening.

The TSA acted appropriately since they couldn't just assume everything was okiedoki when they saw something shaped like a large caliber round on the screen.

This is just me, but the article states TSA officials..................................

Unless I see the actual TSA report then I am not going to buy it. And even with that we are dealing with an alphabet agency here, and that is very clear that depending on what your last name happens to be is going to be what kind of "justice" you will see.

According to the article, it was found in checked baggage.

I wonder if this was placed loose in his baggage, instead of in the thermos of coffee, would it have been discovered?

I have found loose loaded rounds in my bag after a trip from back in my days when my range bag pulled double duty.

Oh.

I do know you have to declare ammo and have it properly packaged, not floating in coffee. I think thats why the TSA is pointing this knucklehead’s work out.

As for the media hyperbole, they are trying to keep their jobs in a dying industry. Story clicks (and the subsequent ad revenue) are what matters most.

Stay safe.
