Got a new PTR 91 and the instructions said that the barrel break in is as follows.

After each of the first 10 rounds run a brass brush down the bore followed by patches with solvent.

For the next 250 rounds repeat the above procedure after each 10-20 rounds.

Total break in period is 250-300 rounds.

Normally I will run my brush and patches from the chamber of the barrel but this means that I will have to dissemble my PTR after each of the fist 10 shots. A giant time consuming pain.

Since my rifle has a flash suppressor would it be okay to clean from the end of the barrel rather than from the chamber end?

Thanks

Those have a fluted chamber, that you likely will not be able to fully clean from the muzzle end. IIRC it is a 41 Cal brush you use to clean the chamber flutes.

I agree as you are breaking in the throat more than the barrel if you believe in this sort of thing, no? Punching down the bore is not that bad if you are careful and use cleaning equipment like aluminum that is softer than forged barrel steel
