I wish I had the capability to post some pictures (I cannot connect the camera at work and the home computer that I can...is down). However, last Saturday was good to me!
I purchased the new Ruger Redhawk 4 inch in .44 mag. This thing is sheer beauty! The most impressive really is the trigger! For those of you who read Shooting Times, the special Ruger edition has a picture of the new pre-production gun on p.36. The pic does not do it justice! It has hardwood grips and the ramp sight does not have the red insert in it. The factory gun has a great Hogue grip and the better sight.
The staff who reported on the gun said that the trigger was "smooth." I can honestly say this trigger is more smooth right outta the box than my former Smith 629. It is sweet!
The second best thing is the grips! The are just marvelous. Unfortunately these Hogue grips do not cover the backstrap, but they mold to my hand so well it is incredible!
Warning: My two shooting buddies with large hands found the grips a bit small. They loves the gun, but getting the pinky on the boottom park of the grip was a bit tough. For a little guy like me though, they are impeccable! For the bigger guys, the aftermarket grips will be a better fit. I can honestly say this is the best fit I have had with a factory grip through. Nice finger grooves and all.
The gun weighs 46. oz. empty, so it will be a beast to lug around as a backup while Elk hunting. Don't worry, it will be a pleasure i enjoy in the coming months.
I sold my $600 Ruger Alaskan .44 to get the money for this one. The Redhawk went out the door for $529. Ruger is going to sell a lot of these guns, I guarantee it!
Once I can get a range report. I'll let you know. This weekend maybe.
God Bless,
Porter.
