Purchased Springfield Echelon To Replace CZ P-09. Well, Not So Fast,...

I recently purchased a Springfield Armory Echelon, with the idea of replacing my CZ P-09. I only need one full size 9mm, so that was the plan. But,...I just returned from the range and....though I seemed to initially like the feel of the Echelon,.....I wasn't able to get near the grouping with it as I can with the CZ. And I pretty much preferred the recoil impulse of the CZ better as well.

:-/

So,...since I do only need one,..........it looks like the Echelon will be the one that eventually goes away. This isn't the result I expected,....but you never know until you take them out and actually shoot them.

I took both out to the range today,...and I guess I was able to get better groups with the Echelon. But as I was shooting those 50 rounds,....I was saying to myself,...."I really don't find this enjoyable." If I am being honest,...I much prefer shooting my Mark II Government and Taurus TX-22 Competition. If it came to a point in time where people were panic buying again,...I might just sell all my 9mm stuff.

Just being honest.

Just came back from the Range. I have decided that, if I am to only keep one of these, it will be the CZ after all. Turns out, when shooting it, it feels better in the hand and is more accurate for me.
Hard to argue with real world impressions. Sometimes a gun looks great on paper, but you never really know until you take it to the range. Most guns are mechanically reliable, so it ultimately comes down to the fact that all hands are different.

Have to love that CZ greatness!

I liked the slightly smaller compact version P07. As soon as I picked it up I knew it just felt right for me. It fits my smaller size hand better than the full size P09. Another neat feature is that it's easily converted to .22LR with CZ's Kadet conversion kit.

I take it youve had the CZ a while, have shot it a good bit, and are familiar with it?

To be fair here, especially with a new gun, 50 rounds is basically nothing, and not even the start of a warm up, let alone a decision-maker for most things. 500 rounds of dedicated shooting with it, and with a focus on it alone, and a good bit of dry fire, would start to give you a clue, and a chance to actually settle in with it. New things always feel "off" compared to things we know, until we actually take the time to learn the new gun.

You seem to have enough of an interest in the Echelon to have bought it, maybe give it a real chance and see. Im not a big fan of Springfield (1911's anyway), but that looks like it could be a decent gun.

I shoot a lot of different makes and types of guns on a regular basis and shoot them all pretty much the same. I do tend to shoot the guns I carry just a bit better, and that's simply because they are what I shoot the most. But having taken the time and effort to learn the others, and keep up with them on a regular basis, keeps them fresh in my head and hands, and if we were to compare a target from each when shot deliberately for groups, you probably wouldn't know which shot which.

Mosin77, that seems to be the thing. Looked good on my monitor...and in a way, it feels "good" in the hand. But until you really shoot it, it's hard to know.

bannockburn, I had a P-07 for awhile. Yep,...also a good gun. And I'd love to find the Kadet for my P-09, but they're relatively rare and are rather pricey these days.

trackskippy, it comes down to how it feels in my hand...or more so, how it "hurts" my thumb knuckle when shooting. It was a gun I really liked the looks of...and that's why I took a chance on it.

^^^^^^^Not for me.

I said good riddance to a Sig P365 and SW metal competitor after about 200 rds.
Am not losing sleep over it.

There really is no substitute for trigger time in deciding whether you like a gun. The single most common piece of advice given on THR almost has to be “go to a range and shoot one,” and for good reason.
