I've heard that Tri-7 is cleaner and have been using it, but my buddy said he shot Tri-7 this weekend after having used pyrodex for several years, and there was much much more crud accumulated back into the receiver and around the primer-holder (nipple?), so he's going back to pyrodex. What's your experience?

My experience has been that T-7 dosen't have much more residue than smokeless. I've fired several dozen shots without swabbing the barrel and haven't had any significant issues.
A few swipes through the barrel with a dry flannel patch on a cleaning jag usually removes most of the crud.

I gotta concur with Steve: 777 leaves little residue compared to regular black powder. When you consider the volume of powder, it's even more impressive. The powder may just not be agreeing with his rifle's nipple.

Ditto the above posts, except for the fact that with 209 ignition, some rifles leave a crud ring right about where the bullet seats, but if you spitpacth the barrel it scrubs out easily (at least in my case). I absolutely love 777, and now only use pyrodex in one gun that just won't shoot with 777 loads.
