yeah....Drillings were developed in countries where u were heavily taxed for each gun u owned....so.....

The REAL reason drillings were develouped is, in those countries, you were hunting from a "stand", and the beaters drove game to you. You never knew what was comeing out, so you had a gun in your hands that "instantly" gave you a "choise" of rifle or shotgun.

I have heard similar reasoning, Goblin, as well as another reasoning being that many times you would be hare or boar or stag hunting as well as pheasant hunting so one gun with multiple capabilities was necessary

I remember an old article by Roger Barlow, 1, 2, 3, 4.
The 4 barreled gun was a Lancaster with two triggers and a loop lever like a Winchester.
He figured that the intended use was on driven grouse. Shoot two coming in, turn around while working the lever to recock the locks, and shoot two more on the way out.
Of course a real toff shooting in Scotland on the Glorious Twelfth of August would have a pair of doubles, swapping the empty for the loaded with his valet or loader to take the second pair of birds.

Need one that's a PGO. :what:

Seriously though it's no telling what that costs. A 3 barreled 12 ga could be nice for duck hunting, but the gun would cost more than the boat.

Drilling - Three Barrels
Vierling - Four Barrels--you really don't want to pay the prices that someone who knows what "vierling" means will sell theirs for ;)
Funfling - Five Barrels (didn't know about that one 'til now :D)

Chiappa's apparently got a 3-barrel 12ga out, now, in both stocked and :eek: pistol grip variants;

Just the over and unders with a rifle barrel on the bottom were pretty heavy when compared to Mossberg 500 or even a Remington 1100. You would need a cart to carry most of the guns discussed in this thread.

Surprisingly, the drillings I have handled all ran about 8# or so - the weight of a good rifle or target gun, albeit the drillings have shorter barrels - so swing dynamics are much different and one would need to practice with that aspect.

Shooting more than one barrel with one pull of the trigger may be very interesting to explain when a ' Suit " from the BATFE comes a rapping, comes a tapping at your chamber door.:)

*gasp* A wild non-American THR member appears!

...Well I thought it was funny....

Definitely NEED one o' these tri-barreled doodads..
