Poll: Quality of CCW training classes

This is a take off on a thread over on GlockTalk about training requirements CCW Training Poll. For those of you who've taken mandatory training to obtain a carry permit, how would you rate the course?

A) Excellent! Great value for the time and money. I learned a lot.

B) Very Good! Good value for the time and money. I learned quite a bit.

C) Good. Ok value for the time and money. I learned a few things I didn't know already.

D) Poor. Poor value for the time and money. I didn't really learn much.

E) Very Poor!. Horrible value for the time and money. I learned squat.

I've taken two CCW classes but only voted on my most recent class. I gave that one a 'poor' rating.

I took the class expecting to learn all the ins and outs of legal concealed carry in my home state. I was not expecting to learn how to shoot a handgun. Well, I learned neither.

The only good result of my class was that the instructor was very much pro-RKBA and talked to all of us about how we can help our cause.

Frankly, I learned more about concealed carry by reading Packing.org and the state law website.

Considering I got the class for free, I'm not complaining. And as a gun owner for only 5 months, I did learn a good bit about handling and the law.

If I hadn't been reading for months before the class would have been much more informative. But there were still bits and pieces I didn't know. And all the situational information was good too.

:D took mine in Beaumont Texas(south east Texas) from Legers gun range.
$100 got my 12 hour:( class, range time, finger prints, my pic, all my pappers
all i had to do was put $140 in the envelope and mail it off .
all in all it was worth it to me, i learned a lot about tresspassing i did not know, like purpil paint on a tree or post at the corners of your property is a posted sign. and if you have on posted signs you cant file tresspassing on some one the first time (they have to have a worning).
but if its night time or you have any animals or food crops, God have mercy on a tresspasser because Texas and me dont have to:evil: .
but to make it longer, yes i do beleave the class was worth it , i learned a lot about safety, laws, and guns in general.
and the class was taught by a Women.

I took the class offered at Lane Community College in 1997. This was a comprehensive personal protection class. In addition to the care and feeding of firearms, the class covered non-lethal force, protection dogs, how to make your house burglar-resistant, use of tactical flashlights etc. They show a video borrowed from the Oregon State Police about how a determined attacker can get to you faster than you can draw and shoot IF the attacker is within 21 feet and is unimpeded. I also got a first hand demonstration of the effectiveness of pepper spray(I played the attacker, stuff works pretty good). He covered tactics with firearms extensively. When to shoot, and when not to shoot. The class had a written test (100 questions) that covered the Oregon Revised Statutes sections regarding use of force, and then there was a 100 shot final shooting test. If you failed either test you didn't get your certificate. This class was definitly worth the money and then some. I think the instructor moved to Portland and is teaching the same class through Clackamas Community College.

Whew, I am tired just thinking about that!
