I was looking at reduced loads for a 30-06 using trail boss and 200 grain Sierras and was wondering. If the bullet has approx 450-525 ft/lbs of energy on target when it is going 1000-1100 fps, do you think it would kill a deer at 100yrds or less?

I know the accepted minimum is 1000 ft/lbs but, for grins what do you think would be the outcome of a perfect braod side shot on a whitetail?

Bullet construction aside, a 200gr fired at 1100 fps should hit at 100 yards more or less similar to a .45ACP, 10mm (or a little less than .41 Magnum or .44 Magnum).

I'm sure it would.

you might want to find a bullet designed for subsonic velocities though. a bullet designed for a 300 win mag or something might be too tough to expand at those low velocities.

people use 357magnums with 600-700 ft lbs at the muzzle to kill deer, no reason a 1000ft lbs couldn't
