Hello everyone. I'm having some feeding issues with a new FNS 9. It will feed and fire American Eagle ammo, but hangs up on MagTech. I would write it off as an ammo issue, except for the nature of the hang-ups. What's happening is that the striker pin is still protruding from the breach face while the next round is trying to slide up the face to align with the chamber. The cartridge rim hits the pin and everything stops. When shooting to slide lock or pulling the slide back to lock, sometimes the pin is protruding from the breech face, sometimes not.

A fellow shooter with extensive Glock experience looked it over at the range today and said it was not normal for a striker-fired pistol to behave this way. The striker pin should promptly retract at the first hint of rearward slide movement.

My question/request for any FNS owners on the board is to take a look at your pistol when racking the slide after pulling the trigger (dry-fire; please be safe). Is the striker pin still protruding as the slide is moving forward back into battery?

Thank you in advance.

I cannot get mine to do what you are describing after many attemps. As soon as the slide has retracted far enough to see the breech face, the striker is no longer protruding at all. Seems like you may have a defect on your hands.

Thank you, Ricebasher. That's the information I needed.

Jakk280rem, the pistol is still new (<100 rounds) and I cleaned the striker channel prior to firing it. I don't believe fouling is the issue. A small burr somewhere, probably. I even compared to an exploded view parts diagram to make sure I was re-assembling it correctly.

I will speak with FN's customer service and go from there.

I spoke with FNH USA service this morning. Upon describing the situation, they promptly requested that I return the pistol to them for service.

FWIW, I checked my FNS-9c, my LC9s and two of my Glocks - only the Ruger behaved as you described - but it's only given me a couple malfunctions in a couple hundred rounds of use. I'll keep an eye on this myself. And to be clear, my FN has been 100% (it's still new, only two range trips so far).

Update: before sending the pistol back to FN, I did some research and found an assembly error. It was my fault from when I first cleaned the striker channel. There's a small "indicator stop pin" that is missing. It has since been found and will be returned to it's proper place. Thinking about how the mechanism works, it's certainly the problem.

The amazing thing is that the gun still ran with 124 grain American Eagle ammo LOL!

Thank you all for the replies. I believe we can close out this thread.
