I was up in Peora last fall, at Cabelas matter of fact. Being an out of state hunter I need to buy some shotgun shells. Brought two boxes up to the counter and the girls asks for my "FOID Card". I thought what ??? I explained I lived out of state and was going hunting with the brothers in law and wanted these two boxes of shells. Well she wouldn't sell me any because I didn't have the FOID Card. Manage says no too. So I had the shells to the B I L and he buys them and hands them to me.

Whats up with that? How is a person from out of state to buy shells/ammo in IL??

Welcome to the board...

My understanding is that an out of stater can buy Rifle or Shot gun ammo if the can prove they are from out of state. In other words show your Driver's ID. You will not be able to buy pistol ammo. I have not run into this since I have a FOID card (For Our Illinois Democrats card). An out of stater buying a gun is another issue.... You will need to go through your home FFL dealer.

Subjects of the People Democratic Republic of Illinios are required to have a FOID card. FOID = Firearms Owner Idendification Card.

We can't so much as own one round of ammo legally with out one.
To buy ammo, look at or buy a gun, or compents, you must have the FOID card.
From what I have read in the IL laws out of state shooters and hunters that are legally here for shooting matches or hunting can legally buy ammo.

The last several times I have been to gunshows and gun shops they have been overly paranoid about seening the FOID card. They've told me that the IL State Police have been harrassing any body and everybody that sells guns and ammo about checking for the card. Setting up stings just to trap those that forget to ask to see it.
Possibly Cabelas is just being overly cautious trying to cover their corporate rear ends.

Illinois gun laws suck. Plain and simple. Have to vote for Pro 2nd ammendement politicians!!!!

OK, Non-IL residents who live in bordering states can buy rifle/shotgun ammo with just a drivers license in accordance to their state laws. If your from an outside state you have to have a nonresident hunting license to purchase ammo.

If your planning on shooting in Illinois your better off bringing your own guns and ammo.

Wanna change the law? VOTEvoteVOTEvoteVOTEvoteVOTEvote........

It's hard to get anything changed in regards to guns, with the little emperor in the peoples republic of Chicago... He started all the law suits against local gun shops and gun manufactures.... Come to Chicago, where even the dead vote... Rant off....

The problem with voting in Illinois.

It is hard to find anyone worth voting for in Illinois, our last Republican Governor George "will end up in prison" Ryan, campaigned against less restrictive gun laws. At the present time in the Republican race for U. S. Senator there doesn't seem to be anyone who is a hard core gun supporter. Jim.

Vote for me as a write in candidate and I'll do what I can if elected!

I hate the backward laws of this state.
