Hello:

I recently purchased a Remington 7615 Police Carbine pump action rifle in .223 and I was contemplating adding a precision reflex picatinny rail scope base and a Bushnell Holosight optic. The gun currently has traditional adjustable rifle sights on it (i.e. not the ghost ring model). Does anyone see any problem with this contemplated setup?

It will be used as a plinker and for some coyote hunting in the bush or in the open where the longest shot would not exceed 200 yards. I have a couple of Savage bolt action rifles in .223 with 1.5 - 6 and 4-16 Bushnell Elite 4200 scopes that I normally use for my hunting / range work. I am just looking for something a little different. Thank you for your time and comments.

Chizzy

Hello krochus:

Thank you for your response. Am I correct that I will not need any additional hardware (as far as a mount goes) if I have the Precision Reflex picatinny rail and the Bushnell Holosight? It is my impression that the Holosight will mount directly onto the rail. Do you consider the Precision Reflex rail to be of decent quality? Thank you for your time.

I am afraid to say that I just purchased this rifle and I have not had an opportunity to take it out to give it a try. While I don't expect it to post the same results as my Savage bolt actions; I am hopeful that it will be a decent shooter. That being said, given my choice of optics for this gun (Holosight) I am willing to sacrifice some degree of accuracy for some increased target acquisition speed.

a holograpigic sight will not allow you to exploit this platforms stellar accuracy potential.
Hello krochus:

Thank you for your response. I realize that I will not have bullet on bullet clover leaf groups with the holosight (I have some scoped bolt action rifles for that); I am just looking for something that is fast and that will hopefully offer accuracy within a minute of coyote. :)

Mine shot much better than those more like a rem700

+1

Although I have the ghost ring sights (with no plans to change) my 7615p has proven to be very accurate.

I'm not sure you will be happy with the holographic sight out past 125 yards or so, even for a clean kill-shot on a coyote. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the comments on the accuracy of the 7615.
I am considering buying one, but was concerned about it accuracy since it comes with ghost rings.
Could the gun/barrel achieve MOA with the right handloads? I guess only testing could tell but what is the experience out there?

I don't have the Police carbine but I do have the 7615 Camo Hunter model. After several different bullets and powder combinations resulting in less than stellar results I finally hit on a super sweet load using 55gr Hornady SP over 25gr W-748 and CCI 450 primers inside Winchester cases for a 5/8" 5 shot group at 100yds. Velocity is only 2850 for the 22" Bbl but is still workable.
