Quick Crimp Question

Your antics amuse me. There isnt really a crimp lover or hater, just those of us who use a crimp correctly in an application that suits it and those who crimp everything or nothing. Using a crimp properly in situations that call for it is the best answer.
Hummm… Crimp Moderator ^^^ answer

but on the real, I’m crimping less and neck tensioning more. Just remove the bell… hate that term. I’m going to call it, Smooth out the Neck

The Other accepted term is removing flair if you prefer....
the term Flair bings me memories of the movie, Office Space. Were Jennifer Anniston got fired for not showing her “Flair”

“Finish the neck” that’s a good term, doesn’t mention crimp and is remands neutral

I hear ya, and have heard others say essentially the same thing, but let me push back a little…if the FCD solves the problem, isn’t the problem solved just the same?

Or, are you like old Miss Racely, “Class, don’t forget to show your work. The answer is wrong if you don’t show your work.” (I just made that up, and mean it humorously, but it’s pretty good, no?)

Edit: that’s really,really, good!

edit, edit: similar to child prodigies solving complex math problems with an abacus but WITHOUT actually having an abacus. They simply recall the abacus in their mind and the problem is still solved correctly.

No, please! Keep your seats!

In this case your fixing the problem but NOT the source of the problem. Fix the source of the problem and the LFCD will be a extra/optional step.

In a positive light it can also serve as an indicator. If you load 100 and normally only have one that post sizes and all the sudden its 20 you know there was a change in the wrong direction.

Serious and correct answer. Good advice for others. But with what happened to the Chiefs a little humor is ok with me

I think a roll crimp is normally used with those two calibers.
Interesting, I was taught that if the projectile had no cannalur, then one would apply a heavy taper crimp......never thought to roll crimp jacked projectiles with no cannalur..the reasoning , I was told, was that it could cause over pressure...so...I heavy taper crimp.....wonder if the heavy taper crimp acts more like a lite roll crimp?
Never gave it much thought, never had one jump..food for thought...thanks

A roll crimp can be applied anywhere to a lead bullet but ideally in the crimp grove. I would not roll crimp a jacketed bullet outside a canalure

I do not shoot cast projectiles, so I can not comment on that...I only load jacketed, without a cannalur...so no roll crimp, just a heavy taper crimp ....

I did not know 45 ACP head space on the case & You should only roll crimp rimmed case

Dang I feel dumb now! all these years.

I use Lee FCD for almost all my pistol stuff. And that’s taper,I hope.

All these years? How many is that? You hope?

Crimp, type and purpose, is very basic information that is described in detail in every reloading manual I have ever owned. The fact that you are reloading ammo for a .460 without having this very basic knowledge is kinda scary bro, makes me wonder what else don't you know. Reloading is not rocket science, but it does take common sense and basic knowledge of proper technique, procedure and the correct application of the tools you are using. Should not take one years to realize what is the proper crimp for the ammo they are making. Believe me, I'm not trying to be a jerk. Just being brutally honest.

the .45ACP is Dillon, and it was already factory setup, So I might be good there.

I just had a panic attack thinking I had to pull all those bullets, But I should be good!

I very much doubt if your Dillon dies were "set up" at the factory. Dillon provides very detailed instructions on how to set up their crimp dies included with their pistol sets. Visual inspection of your ammo should tell you rather easily whether or not you have a taper crimp or roll crimp.

anybody want to shoot my handloads???

Your thread here is a prime example of why we recommend to others that they do not shoot other's handloads.

Your antics amuse me

^^^Same here.

I find brutal honesty a vertue in men. We should be able to say it how it is.

I learn more every day that shooting someone loads other than my own is terrifying
Honesty sure. Respectful honesty. But so called brutal honesty is often more pride on the part of the speaker than helpful information to the listener. If one must be brutally honest for some reason it could be conveyed privately and not publicly.

Just being honest here:)
