I'm talking about Berry's .45 cal 185 HBRN... What is the point of a hollow base? How does this change pressures? Is it just to keep seating depth and OAL closer to normal?

Thanks!

It seats like ball ammo, feeds like ball ammo, and shoots real well to boot.

Yes, just what both of you said. The hollow base allows the side of the bullet (the "bearing surface") to be longer, so you can seat lighter bullets to normal ball ammo depth and it feeds every time. It hasn't been a tack driver in my 1911's, but for short range shooting it's perfectly adequate for me.

Yeah I did a thread search and even went to their website and couldn't find any info..

Thanks guys!

I dont know if it works the same for the Berry's, being coated or plated or whatever, but, generally a hollow base allows it to expand under pressure to create a better seal with the barrel. If it really makes a diff nowadays I couldnt say, but thats why the mini-ball, from the civil war era I believe, had a hollow base.

I suppose it could also give slight increase in capacity for same weight bullet, but thats just a guess.
