Did Glock ever offer a hard chromed slide on a Gen 2 G19 as a factory option? If so does it indicate this on the box or slide and how?

Gen 2 or 4, which do you prefer and why in a G19?

Hmmm, I don't recall a hard chromed slide as a factory option, but I only shoot 'em. Not a Glock aficionado. I've had a Gen2 G19 for 20 years. Haven't found a reason to change.

Nope, someone had it done to the gun. Would be cool to see a pic of it.

Nope, there were no factory hard chromed slides on the Gen2 G19. I've seen several with electroless nickel applied to the slide.

Between the Gen2 and the Gen 4 G19, I prefer the Gen2.

I don't need the rail on the frame and the frame fits my hand without having to resort to changeable backstraps. But the biggest factor is that my Gen2 G19 has never thrown brass back into my face like later Gen3 and Gen4 G19 that my friends have.

The Gen2 G19 also doesn't have the dual recoil springs that were introduced with the Gen4 to address issues with the .40 cartridge

I bought a 2nd gen G-19 many years ago. It was a police trade in. It had some problems. This is when I learned to rebuild and work on Glocks. I had the slide hard chromed. So it was not factory chrome. It is as nice today as the day it came back from Washington. I do remember the LGS having ten Glocks lined up under the glass all with Chromed slides. I don't know the story behind them however. So I guess my answer really is that I don't know. Sorry.

Heck no, but I'll never cease to be amazed at what folks do to their guns... Glock hasn't offered anything but their Tenifer "nitration" on top and OD green or FDE tan, besides black for frame color.
So if you come up to the gun counter and ask for the chrome Glock, Tiffany blue, Hello Kitty pink, or Barney purple because it "was online somewhere" please don't get offended when I say "You shoulda bought it when you saw it!" Both my G19s wear the factory original finish whilst one is OD frame. YMMV :)

Factory offerings for frame colors also include Red and Blue

IIRC, the blue and red are for training purposes (red for blanks or simunition, blue for gun retention practice). I sold Glocks for seven yrs and never saw those cataloged as "firearms". I'm not a cop trainer nor Glock distributor now, so pardon me if I'm wrong. Thanks for posting excellent photo :)

I have both a Gen 2 and a Gen 4.

The machining and plastic molding on the Gen 4 is nicer. The Gen 2s tend to have more tooling marks and molding flaws from what I have seen. Also, the grip is a little thinner on the Gen 4. The gen 4 has a reversible mag catch but I'm a lefty and i don't even bother swapping it. The gen 4 also has a snazzy double spring guide rod that is suppose to help with felt recoil but I've never noticed a difference.

Advantages for the Gen 2 is no finger groves if you don't like those and a slightly more crisp trigger (at least when I compare my copy to my gen 4)

Finally, make sure your Gen 2 isn't on the recall list or make sure your Gen 4 is of the latest manufacture that has the updated ejector and recoil spring. Glock perfection aside...

It's a toss up honestly. If you go for a used gen 2, make sure to look it over. I bought mine that had only been shot once, oiled, and put into storage for years. The firing pin block was stuck open with old oil and needed a good cleaning in order to get the gun into a condition where it was safe to fire and carry.

Glock discontinued Tenifer about five years ago. Tenifer isn't a color or finish but a metal treatment. Glock continues to use a nitriding process but hasn't released a brand name of the exact process.

The finish on a Glock slide is paint. If a distributor orders enough pistols and wants them purple.....Glock will paint them purple.

Yes, I'm aware that Glock discontinued the branded term "Tenifer" back in 2010, however my guns are older than that & I like the nostalgic anachronism. The actual slide finish is closer to a black parkerization applied ON TOP of the ferritic nitrocarburizing or gas nitration treatment. A buddy who attended Glock Armorer course in summer 2013 said that Glock themselves were referring to new production guns as having "NITRATION" as Tenifer and Melonite are trademarked brands. S&W used Melonite which I believe was slightly more scratch prone (could be touched up w/ bluing pen). So now, while the quality is probably the same if not better than ever, Glock uses the royalty-free generic term: nitration. IMHO, YMMV
:)

-to the OP, gen2 if you have large hands gen4 if you're small handed like me and enjoy finger grooves. OK thx.
