I recently got one of the newly imported Zastava M77 PAP in .308. I believe this is their new "Battleworn" model. There isn't much info out there on these yet.
It came equipped with a slant-brake and a set of nice beech furniture modeled after the famous M76 furniture. The slant brake was quickly ditched for an SVD-style flash hider which much better suits the lines of the gun. The pistol grip is a little longer than the stubby M76 grip and it lacks the metal ferrule, which is a pity because it looks very good. That said, I'm a big fan of the furniture. The integrated rubber buttpad is stiff but comfortable and I am happy with it. The buttstock is typically AK short, but so am I so it works for me. The handguards are not sanded very finely, and are rough with raised grain lines. I didn't like it at first but it is growing on me. They appear to have some kind of mild oil finish along with the rest of the wood. The metal has the typical but attractive Zastava hot-blued finish which feels and looks good. The bore, chamber, bolt, BCG, piston and gas adjustment ring all have a hard-chrome finish which seems very durable.
I shot it for the first time today at 75yds and it shot really well when I was able to get stable. The factory trigger is a typical "no-stage" AK trigger with one long pull until it discharges, and it is the rifle's biggest enemy. I've equipped it with a POSP 6x42 Pro which performed admirably.
I had no malfunctions at all. I ran everything on gas setting "2" using the included CSSpecs magazine. It was a short range trip with only maybe 40 rounds fired.
Shot about 1.3-1.5MOA with the aforementioned PMC XTAC168gr match ammo.
Shot about 2.5MOA with Turkish SAR 149gr M80 ball and British Radway Green 147gr surplus.
I genuinely believe it will do better once I master the trigger and find somewhere to shoot prone.
Shooting off a bench sucks.
