The N-PAP is flying off the shelves these days due to the known quality of Zastava rifles, the cost, the fact that less O-PAPs are available, and because they're just a lot of rifle for the money. Here's what I've found with mine:

Pros:
-100% reliable
-Fit and finish are excellent for the price point it comes to market at
-Cost. It's around $600 or less most places
-Cold hammer forged barrel
-Everything (safety, top cover, gas tube, ect...) is tight.
-Accepts all standard size com-bloc mags with no more wobble than is normally found on '47 variants
-Imported with correct double stack bolt (current versions)
-With steel cased ammo it groups around 3''
-The prevalence of these Yugo/Serbian rifles in this country has led a lot of accessory companies to make parts for them as well as standard AKM variants.
-New furniture

Cons:
-It's heavier than some stamped AKM variants
-Barrel is not chrome lined
-Many parts (stock, optics rail, handguards, ect....) are non-standard for AKM pattern accessories)
-Some folks report 'cheek slap' from the stock.

All in all it's an excellent rifle for the money. Build quality is on par with the higher end AKs yet it's priced on the lower end of the spectrum.

Here's a video with a bunch of shooting, a discussion of some of the unique features of the rifle, an accuracy test, and an what I think of it overall:

I have an O-PAP and second everything the OP said. This is a solid, well- made rifle and a good shooter. Couldn't be happier.

No grenade launcher, no bayonet mount? Deal breaker for me. :what:

I do want to get an AK one of these days, not sure what variety, good video.

How do you think it stacks up compared to a slr 107.

Performance wise it'll be very similar. But, I personally prefer the standard size stock on the 107 and the weight of it. That said, I also like having an extra $450 :D

I do want to get an AK one of these days, not sure what variety, good video.

Thanks.

I've seen them for the mid $500's retail. Found a dealer price of $400 at one location and when my FFL called they were all gone.

I can live with AR15's that don't have a chrome lined barrel...how neccessary is it on an AK considering the 762x39 ammo?

Old surplus ammo was/is corrosive...Tula, Wolf, Bear, etc. is not corrosive. So, not a problem with the barrel being lined.

Agreed. Slightly less barrel life but it would still take A LOT of rounds before you'd notice.

I just picked one of these up for $579 and like it. Not love, but like. I agree about the cheek slap issue. I am just working on where to get a decent cheek weld that is also low enough to get a sight picture, without getting slapped. Only about 100 rounds through so far, hopefully I can find the sweet spot. Otherwise maybe an optic is in my future! Once that little issue is worked out, it will be a lot more fun!
