Almost everywhere but church and work

I carry my Springfield GI .45 (5") around almost everywhere with the Galco NSAII IWB holster. If you can, get it, it's a great leather holster that can be taken off very quickly and put on almost as quickly. Look it up on Galco's site. Also, I have a Galco Concealable OWB holster that I carry my piece in occasionally, when I'm not too concerned about who sees it. I highly recommend trying to find a Galco product that suits your needs because they are usually in stock, high quality, and they have excellent customer service. To add to my Galco accessory line, I went head and bought one of their leather double mag pouches too (matches my Concealable holster)...another great buy. I probably sound like a salesman working for Galco, but I'm not...however if there's someone at Galco on here, feel free to hire me! ;)

+1 on 1911sc Commander

and I carry a Kimber Custom Aluminum Stainless in summer, OWB in Galco, Bianchi, El Paso Saddlery or DeSantis. Yes, you need a gunbelt, though I have made do with a Carhartt work belt. 2XLT t shirts cover a lot.
Cheers, TF

I find that;

Handsome holsters if OWB seem to mitigate the shock of seeing someone carrying open. Brown/Tan versus black, but pretty leather seems to suggest somehow you're a professional, so you must be alright, right? At least until you can clear the area.

Cheers, TF

I carry a Commander-length steel .45 OWB in a Galco slide holster, just behind the hip. I find bomber jackets just cover the barrel, so I'm afraid an extra 3/4" for a full-sized barrel might be visible. I use Crimson Trace grips, and haven't had any troubles with holster fit.

I've shot lighter-weight (aluminum frame) .45's and find follow-up shots more difficult. I can't give proper attribution, but someone once said to a concern that carrying a .45 was heavy "It's not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting." So, a recommendation for steel frame.

i prefer shooting my 5" 1911s, but i prefer to carry my 4"/4.25" 1911s. that little bit makes a big difference when i sit. larger frame folks probably dont notice as much difference. dont get the wrong idea, i can carry my trp all day long in comfort in a vm2, its just that i can carry my commander size 1911s a little better.
