I carry a Commander-length steel .45 OWB in a Galco slide holster, just behind the hip. I find bomber jackets just cover the barrel, so I'm afraid an extra 3/4" for a full-sized barrel might be visible. I use Crimson Trace grips, and haven't had any troubles with holster fit.
I've shot lighter-weight (aluminum frame) .45's and find follow-up shots more difficult. I can't give proper attribution, but someone once said to a concern that carrying a .45 was heavy "It's not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting." So, a recommendation for steel frame.
