Yo,

I am not going to describe how a 1911 works. If you haven't seen it by now, your not going to learn it from me!:) Anyway, went to the range today with my new Taurus PT-1911, and all I can say is "Wow!".

Pros: Very accurate with all loads. Heinie Straight-Eights are incredible.
Both magazines worked flawlessly, much to my delight.
Hollowpoints fed just fine.
Trigger was very good.

Cons: Not many, but I don't like the slide release all that much. A tad small
Grips are adequate, and look OK, but I can see replacing them soon.

I fired 254 rounds from the Taurus with no cleaning. There were zero malfunctions. The ammo ran the gamut from Hydra-shoks all the way down to some iffy reloads I got specifically to test in the gun. The magazines worked well even when fully loaded with 8 rounds. I will likely buy some additional mags, but the stock ones work exactly as intended. I shot a shoot-n-see at about 25-30 yards, and was able to keep all my rounds to within about 6-7 inches, max, with my closest groups being in the 2-3 inch range, which is pretty darn excellent for me. I also blooped a plastic bottle around the range with ease. I also shot some tiger teeth at various ranges, and was having a hard time missing them.

In short, I am very, very happy with the Taurus. Long term reliability is unknown, but I was impressed enough with the performance to say that I would recommend this pistol to anyone interested.

As a side note, I shot a new friends S&W Ti snubby in .357. I very much enjoy shooting my own .357, but the Ti is obviously very light and thus generated waves of unpleasant recoil. I would not, and in fact did not, shoot it again. As a carry gun, I can see where it would be a delight, but I think you have to shoot what you carry, and I just can't see shooting that thing enough to develop any real skill with it. The firesights on it were very nice, though.

I too believe you have to shoot what you carry & that the lighter guns just aren''t that much fun to shoot...
As for the subject of this thread...CONGRATS & thanks for sharing ;)

Thanks for the report. I have been looking for one and have yet to find one.

Unfortunately, right now I have "AK-underfolder-feveritis" that I will have to treat before it becomes terminal, so the PT1911 is on the back burner, for now.

I was all prepared to not like the "straight 8" sights. Glad to hear they worked well for you.

congrads and a fine report.enjoy your new 45.some pics would be great:) .

Thanks for the report! Now to decide if to buy one now, or to wait for the stainless version. I'd like the stainless, but I don't have much patience either...:D

Hex,

To answer your question, I bought it at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Loveland, CO for a grand total of $449.95. $580 is way, way to expensive.

Dave,

You know, sitting in my house aiming at the rams head on the wall, I didn't think I was going to be a big fan of the straight eights either. I changed my mind after shooting them, as they really do work, and are actually much easier to pick up. I don't know that I will claim that they are the best sights ever or anything like that, but they worked pretty darn good for me.

Thanks for the range report, i am reading everyone i find about the pt1911, i am thinking hard about getting one, and after this a few other positive reports i am ready to take the plunge i believe, just gotta wait till tax time! congrats on the gun, and i am glad that it is working out so well for you!
