rcbs chargemaster 1500 cleaning

hello,
i just have a quick question about how to clean the powder of an rcbs chargemaster. i do it by draining the powder out the side. then, i tip it forward to get the powder to come out from the end. then, i sweep any powder down the side with the brush. this works good with extruded powders, but with pistol powders it becomes a pain in the butt, mostly because they are very sticky. so, if anyone could include easier or more efficient ways to clean the rcbs chargemaster.

I open the drain on the side and drain the majority. Use a small brush to make sure no kernels are stuck to the side of the reservoir. Push 99 on the keypad and then dispense. Let it run for 30-45 seconds, then take back of brush and light rap on tube to get the stragglers out. Done.

An occasional wipe with a fabric softener sheet reduces or stops static powder sticking.

esheato, i tried that technique after loading 9mm. it workd for a few seconds, but the powder was coming out so slowly that i decided to take off the plastic thing the scale rests on and cleaned it out with a shop vac. it did the job 10 times better. i still like your techniques, but adding the shop vav really made the difference.

Slow? Hmm...the reason I punch in 99 is because the measure should never get to that amount, therefor should dispense at the fastest speed until you manually cancel it....ie not slowing down as it approaches the target weight.

As far as the shop vac goes, I'm sure it works well...but powder costs add up quick and I'd rather not suck up money. Lord knows I spill enough on the floor as it is.

yeah, im pretty sure if i let it run longer it would all come out. maybe i have a short attention span jkjk. next time i make ammo i will let it run all the way, because powder will just keep going up and up. thanks for the help

You have a static cling problem.

tomon mentioned using a dryer sheet to wipe the hopper.
Washing it first with rubbing alcohol will help too.

I prefer Static Guard Spray.

1. Open petcock & drain powder into any small plastic cup/bowl

2. Press "99" (or whatever) then "Dispense" to get rid of powder left in the tube.

3. While it's running (therefore vibrating) sweep any powder off the internal reservoir "shoulders" and down into the drain hole.

4. Shut off machine/close petcock

30-45 seconds all told, start-to-finish

My solution was to avoid having to change powders

I used to be a "different powder for everything" guy but found that for my calibers one powder pretty much covers the field.

If I do have to change, the brush does most and picking the unit up, shaking the powder in the tube back into the reservoir does the rest.

I've also found that the more powder I run through the unit, the less the static buildup.

I always wondered about that stuff! I use it on my pants when it starts to get cool. Dress pants cling to your legs and feels weird..so I bought some. Stuff works great on clothes..but would it contaminate powders??

By the way...I feel you on the slip thing. When I'm getting ready for friday nights..it messes with my look if my slip is clinging to my hairy thighs.
