For a while now, Been thinking about getting a Little Dandy powder measure. The other day, had to ride downstate - on the way back rode by a gun shop (good place, been there a couple times in the past- just a little out of my way). Wanted to see if they had any primers (don't LOL)- they did - I could get 1 pk - which I did !
On the shelf aside of components was a beat up box with a Little Dandy measure, with an old faded price sticker- looked like 24.95. Picked it up also.
For 38SPL, load 145 gr OTB bullet (listed as 140 gr) and 6.0 gr Silohoutte powder.
If you try this load- do so at your own risk.
None of the Little Dandy rotor tables I can find- list any loads for Silohoutte. I've tried to extrapolate a load by cross referencing a Lee dipper chart. I think a 08 is close?
Just wondering if anyone with a Little Dandy, loads Silohoutte and what rotor you use for the corresponding charge?
Appreciate your advice,
Thanks,
Nero

I have had a LD for decades, it has a bunch of rotors with it, but today it might be a problem finding them. To my knowledge there are no adjustable rotors for it, it is strictly throw with what you have. But matching a new powder up to an old rotor would be a cup capacity deal, not a weight, to get a weight so you might have to switch and change until you get close.

Even if there was a chart for new powders, the Little Dandy rotors rarely match what the chart says. Mine was always a rotor larger or smaller than the chart.

But, I agree it would be nice to know where to start.

Unfortunately, rotors have gotten expensive. Some of the first one's I bought have a $2.98 price sticker on the box. Now they are $12 and up.

I've heard of some folks dropping some nail polish or enamel paint in the bottom of a rotor to make it thow a bt smaller or even drill it out a little to make the rotor throw a slightly larger charge.

There was a guy who made adjustable rotors but by the time I learned about them, he was hard to find. Maybe do a search and see what you come up with.

Might try starting with rotor #8. Was loading BE86 yesterday and #8 dropped 6 grains. As mentioned above, rotor chart and actual powder charge are not the same - YOU NEED TO WEIGH ON A SCALE to verify actual charge weight.

With that said, I have all rotors including the adjustable one. I used the adjustable once and won't again - powder gets stuck in the adjusting threads. Others may have a different experience with adj rotor.

FWIW,

Paul

I have a LD I have used since I first started reloading. I have about 6 rotors IRC. But for the last 20 years I have just used the adjustable rotor I made. I drilled out a #9 rotor and threaded it. It will throw from .4grs of Bullseye to 6.9grs of Bullseye. And since it it screw adjustable it throws any weight in between.

I love it. I can charge a loading block with 50 pieces of brass in just a minute or less. And it drops the exact same charge over and over.

And yes you can buy a bigger rotor than you need and add wax or putty to it until it throws the charge you want. I have done that before.
