But, as long as some refuse to do that, the fight goes on, without end.

Well put SharpDressedMan, very well put.

Thanks for following up James. Nice of you to explain your position and how you got there.

James,

One of the first things I noticed when I read the sticky that you started some years ago, was that you came across with a genuine sincerity and an open mind. Thanks for having the courage, and courtesy to join, post, and ask your question. I'm also very proud of the members of the forum that replied with kindness, and respect. (that's a huge reason why I joined this forum myself)

I'm very glad that the negative experiences that influenced your perspective did not end in harm to you or your loved ones.

I sure hope you find as much enjoyment with this activity as some of us have, and I also hope that you never need to use your sidearm out of fear or self-preservation. I pray this myself every time I put mine on.

I like the idea of selecting a firearm that is comfortable to you, with the idea that you will practice more with a tool that is more comfortable to hold. While the 1911 design is one of my all-time favorites, I realize others do not share my feelings.

But as others have said, practice is a key component. Also, if you have not done so already, have you considered a class? I'm a believer that in a panic situation, we do not 'rise to the occasion', but rather, we fall to our level of training.

It's been a pleasure to read the threads that have revolved around you and your questions. Thank you!
