Has anybody installed the Blackhawk recoil reducing stock on a Maverick 88? I am retired and can't really afford to buy a new 12 gauge with less recoil and the ole shoulder is make shooting a little less fun than it used to be.

I installed a Knoxx (pre-Blackhawk buyout) on an 870 Wingmaster for my wife and it easily cut the recoil in half, she loved it until switching to semi-auto.

Reduced recoil loads, proper fitting stock, and proper hold will cut most of the recoil.

I shot one on a buddy's 500 mossberg, I was pretty impressed with heavy magnum loads. For birdshot and light loads it seemed to make little to no difference.

I added Knoxx recoil-reducing stocks to my Mossberg 500 and NEF Pardner. I love how they work, but be aware that it will require that you modify your cheek-weld somewhat.

As another poster noted, the recoil reduction actually works better with the heavier loads. The energy of the greater load actually seems to cause the springs to work more aggressively.

With the Knoxx stock, I can rapid-fire slugs or 00-buck from the hip, using just the pistol grip (not bracing the shoulder stock), with absolutely no sting or whack to my hand.

Take the factory butt plate off and pour the stock bolt hole full of shot, there is also a product that is a tube filled with mercury that slips into the hole, Brownells hanndles it.

I have a 88 that I picked up about a month ago and only have had it to the range once to run a box of light loads through it and by the bottom of the box I was right sore. The stock butt pad is crazy hard.

I picked up a Limbsaver #10201 from Wally World for ~$38 after shipping. It just showed up this morning and installed in just a couple of minutes. I won't get to try it until Monday as the range is closed this weekend, but it is much softer. I don't expect it to make a pump 12 feel like my Marlin 60, but I can't see how it cannot be an improvement over the stock rock that Maverick puts on. It also has a beveled top that really helps with the stock grabbing the material of my shirt when shouldered quickly. I was looking at a new stock, but for less than $40 I thought I would give this a try.

I have a 20 ga Remington Express Youth (LW) shooting 3" 4 buck Magnums, at coyotes, installed a red dot sight and sighting in wasn't a pleasant experiance by any means.

I put a Limbsaver on it to increase the LOP on the youth stock and it made a BIG difference, in the recoil.

Believer

Just installed limbsaver on my HD 870 12g. Fired a dozen rounds of full power buck, BB, and bird and the difference is night and day. Had shoulder replacement surgery last year and the normal recoil of a 20 or 12 was too much to handle. The net recoil after installing the limbsaver was even better than I had hoped for. Got to wonder why they don't install something like the limbsaver on shotguns when they make them. Should be basic on all heavy recoil weapons.

Personally, I have shot my Mossberg 500A with an ati drop spacer and my Blackhawk Knoxx Spec Ops stock. I installed a limbsaver on it specifically made for the Knoxx Stock. I use the low cheek riser with it. I have not had it cheek slap me one time. I have shot it mostly squared up to the target but did shoot it bladed some. I think that the people getting cheek slap off it are not using the cheek piece, are shooting high walled brass, and are shooting it bladed. I shot reduced recoil buck out of mine along with birdshot and target loads. I shot 300 rounds total last range session. On Friday of this week I plan on going back to the range and shooting again. Only this time I will be trying out the ATI Talon tactical stock with drop spacer to see how it performs. Whichever stock I like the best I will keep and sell the other. The ATI Talon Tactical has one of the universal pop on M4 limbsavers. I had to use a screw driver as a shoe horn to help it on but once on it fits great. Thus far I swear by limbsaver. The reason I use the drop spacers with the aforementioned stocks is due to the fact they sit higher than my ghost ring sight picture. With the drop spacers the sight picture is dead on and lines up perfectly.
