Guys, I'd like to get a leather sheath for my Fallkniven A1. The zytel sheath that came with this particular model rattles more than I'm happy with for hiking. But it's been so long since I last bought a custom leather sheath that I don't know where to start in the long list of custom leather smiths.

Any recommendations for a sheath maker who does for knives what Simply Rugged does for guns?

I'm also in the market for sheaths for a couple of knives that I have. One didn't come with a sheath while the other sheath was fairly worn and promptly fell apart not long after I bought it. Looking for something in leather or Kydex.

Making a leather sheath is easy, but making it both functional and good looking is actually quite hard and requires skill and practice. As I don't live in the US and do my own leather work I can only give a couple of suggestions on what to look for when shopping for one:
1. Nicely beveled edges.
2. Recessed stitching, that sits uniformly and at an even distance from the edge all the way around.
3. Uniform color.
4. Uniform finish.
5. The joint line between two (three or more) layers should not be visible.
6. Restrain yourself from bright coloring, skulls (in any form), Bible quotes, gaudy tooling, tactical picatinny rails, morale patches and etc.
7. If you ignore Nr. 6, then you can ignore all of the above too - Bad Love Leather should be good enough for you.

Contrary to the popular believe that many people seem to share these days, a real quality handmade product must not show any imperfections - it must look better that the best quality machine made sheath money can buy. Imperfections suggest sloppy work and a maker with questionable skills and not "unique bespoke handmade one-at-a-time" piece.

I have two Stellar Rigs sheaths made for two of my knives. They are kydex. I have never experience better quality. The fit and finish is waaaaay better than other kydex sheaths. You ship them the knife, and they fit the knife. .

A local PD Sgt here makes sheaths for me at remarkably reasonable prices. He'd need the knife and pictures of what you want to give you a price. He's a full time LEO so he's not fast, but I'm very happy with the work.

Thanks for the links and the info. Definitely some things to check out; especially liked the Stellar Rigs and the Patriot Leather Company offerings.

Thanks everyone. I decided to go with a drop loop design from Patriot Leather. Looks like exactly what I need for hiking and camping.

The best sheaths I ever had made were from Lifter's Leather. Entry level may be good but the pro sheaths are a whole 'nuther world.

I believe his site is liftersleather.com

My sheath arrived yesterday. I'm very impressed and will buy from Patriot Leather again. :)
