I'm looking for recommendations on a 12 gauge bullpup shotgun for home defense use. Along with your recommendation, please state why that particular make and model is your pick.

Thanks

of all the above i have only shot the 10B, it belonged to a bud of mine.

trigger was poor due to long linkage from trigger group to pistol grip.

PS---by any means that are legal, take a loaner/rental to the range and shoot it
quite a bit. it always seemed to me the handiness of a bullpup shotgun was lost
out compared to the drastic decline in "instinctive" pointability. no detriment in
a rifle format as at their typically longer range use they have to be aimed to be
effective anyway.

Mossberg Model 500 Bullpup
Two versions were made, a 6 shot (5+1) and a 8 shot (7+1).
It was discontinued in the early 90s.
They pop up on the auction sites and sell from $400-800 depending on condition.

Here's a pic of the early Hi-standard law enforcement model. I took this pic at Rock Island Armory ordinance museum a couple of weeks ago. Definately worth the visit if your are near the Quad-cities area. Note the built-in flashlight on top in front of the carry handle.

In my opinion, and free advice is worth what you pay for it, I would stay very far away from bullpup shotguns. Most if not all bullpup designs require a long trigger linkage that usually leads to a poor trigger. I am amazed that the NATO countries have kept the bullpup designs that they have had for so long but then I have not had the opportunity to fire the current military rifles.

Face up to it...

By design the bullpup configuration necessitates putting your face in close proximity to the chamber. With the exception of barrel obstructions, that's where the ka-boom usually occurs.

Even with all the advantages of the design, this problem zeros them all out for me. :scrutiny:

The rear yoke is pinned in place to keep if from rotating and I had an extended magazine tube fashioned to give 7+1 capacity even with Federal shotshells (which tend to go a little long). As you can see the rear sight tower has been removed and it wears a Picatinny rail and an Eotech. It's a shotgun, a mushy trigger pull isn't as big a deal as it might be for something I need to hold dead on at 300 meters. Oh, and that's not rust on the bolt carrier, it's just a trick of the lighting.

Ones that might have been, or may yet be, depending on the political climate...
HALO Manufacturing came up with the design and them sold it to Monolith. This is the P12. A twenty-round horizontal feed magazine in a package like an oversized PS-90
