Well, it was a long weekend at the gun show. Just got to feed the boy and get him to his mom's house. Then get home and order a few parts.

Today I ordered the Seekins red ambi safety selector, a black nitried gas tube. red QD end plate and a muzzle brake.
On the way home I'm going to pick up the GunTec red buffer tube set from my local gun shop.
Oh, when Isaac was checking out the parts the other night, he really liked the phantom charging handle.

I made it home with the buffer tune.


I got a pretty good deal because I picked up two other sets in black. Total was $76.

Yes you can. But then I still have a bunch of lowers to build.

Going to help a friend do a riptile camouflage paint job. If it comes out good, I might have to build another rifle just to paint.

I generally don't personally like the way color scheme builds turn out. (Just personal preference.)

But that red anodized upper and hand guard look cool.

The the three main red parts are the upper, rail and the buffer tube. These parts are all GunTec. I could have saved a little money on the buffer tube, but I wanted to match. The safety, back plate and take down pins will be a little different, but should still look good.
More parts should arrive today. If everything shows up we can start on the build Friday afternoon when Isaac gets home.
I'm going to let him do as much of the build as he can, I may have to help with a few parts.

Nice! Good choice getting them all from the same place. Ive had issues machting stuff even from the same company, or even the same anodizer on some builds, but its usually the best way to make everything match, or atleast get really close.

Looking forward to the complete ariticle. Im sure you guys will have run with the build!

Well, the Brownell's order with the safety and black gas tube showed up today.
With all the parts it was time to start the build.


Isaac did 90% of the work with me helping out here and there.







We had a great time putting it together. For each part, I went over what it was and how it worked. He did learn that the front detent and spring will fly across the shop if you're not careful. It's a good thing that dad keeps extra parts on hand. We had a good laugh when the parts went flying.
He said that he liked the Strike Industries Viper butt stock so we went with it. If he changes his mind we can chang it out.
He very happy with the way it turned out, but he did tell me that I need to order some red magazines. Looks like I need to place that CDNN order.

Thank you for posts. I have been considering doing a build like yours (except for using different brands of buttstock and grip) also. I love the way it turned out.

p.s. I agree that his gun needs a red magazine.

You do realize you need a "dad" version with the colors reversed, right?

That is so sharp looking that words fail. Does not look at all like the gussified-up competition race guns out there. Which is a good thing.
